The ProTuff is $174.97, which is $80.02 less than the carbon fiber.

And while it's extremely unlikely that either pole will break, the ProTuff won't drop sharp slivers of carbon fiber into the pool if it ever does.

Just purchased my third ProTuff product (a small net to go with one of the two poles I bought). I called their support to help me sort out the "goodie card" they include with the pole. Short version: she was suuuuuuuuper helpful. A really pleasant experience. I can't say enough good things about their products and their support.

That's awesome to hear, I purchased the really tight mesh net last year when I had early pollen and it worked awesome with my original pole. Kept the pole in my shopping cart and then had to get it when original bit the dust. Looks like a very well made product made right here in the USA I think too, which is a bonus!!

The lifetime warranty is great, but I suspect the rubber handle is the weak link, if you gotta store it in the sun. I slip a scrap of PVC drain pipe over the handle when not in use.

Two down today:

1. Affixed the water level ruler. I decided to use a stainless steel screw into the grout (with a plastic anchor). I had originally intended on using epoxy, but then realized I may need to replace it if it fades, or move it out of the way for tile cleaning or just get rid of it if this idea does not pan out. One screw and done.

I used a contractor's level to make sure the bottom of the ruler is even with the bottom of the skimmer opening. Today my water level is 3-3/8" above "ground zero."

I found a ruler that is white with transparent letters. So the white may disintegrate at some point, but the letters won't fade because they are just holes in the white.

2. Got tired of fishing my skimmer basket handle out from the bottom of my huge green waste can. The handle pops off if I bang the basket just so when trying to dislodge leaves and crud. Only took me eight years to figure this out. Drill small hole, insert zip tie. Doh! Also figured out why it hasn't rusted all these years. It's brass! Duh!

Hung up a skimmer sock with CYA to soak. Whatever the return doesn’t dissolve, I will later this afternoon if it doesn’t storm. Planning to dump some salt today as well. Well, have my daughter dump it while I brush it around.

Also cheered Flipper on while he scurried around sucking up all the debris from this weekend’s storms.

Checked on my water level ruler today. Just pointing out what I was trying to solve (however ridiculous it might seem). Here's a shot from about noon today. I don't know about anyone else, but I literally cannot see (from my pool cam) where the water level is against the edge tile, in the sun or the shade. But on the ruler, the water forms a perfectly visible black line. Resolution down to 1/16 of an inch!



Works at night, too!



And yes, I'm getting to the calcium ring right after this!!

Unsolicited advice tip-o-the-day: When you say "dump it while I brush it around," do you mean dump it all around the pool? I tried that once, but never again. Now I dump it all into the smallest pile I can make, in the shallow end. Then just poke at the pile with my brush, basically just trying to keep the pile as small as possible by brushing the salt onto itself. That is sooooo much less work, sooooo much faster. It dissolves in very quickly. A day later the mix into the water is the same.

Yeah that line is darn near invisible without the ruler! Nicely done!
