What did you do to your pool today?

I changed one word. I said for my pool, instead of to my pool. I created two mosquito dunks to help lower the mosquito population around my pool. Mosquito dunks work by attracting mosquitos to standing water to lay their eggs. The "dunk" is a donut of BTI bacteria that kills the larvae.
This is brilliant! I use the dunks all the time for puddles around my property (neighbor’s pool 🤣), gutters etc. but never thought of making a portable puddle!
I have recently started introducing an igr (tekko pro) on every other spray and currently alternating between bifenthrin & lambda cyhalothrin it has made a huge difference vs only using bifenthrin and no igr.

What did I not do to my pool? I didn't follow the pool store recommendations. I stopped into the store for some sand for my filter. I brought along a bottle of water for them to test just for fun. I believe in my results. Their results were not far off from mine. My FC was 7.5 and theirs was 7.0. That set off an alarm from them. They wanted me to buy a magic potion to reduce it. Even if I were to believe them, why wouldn't they just recommend shutting off the SWG for a day.

I tested TA at 70 and they at 64. They wanted me to raise it to a minimum 80. Old pool advice of 80-120 ppm. I said I'm find. I measured pH at 7.7 and they at 7.9. They wanted me to add dry acid. This time I didn't correct them by saying read the SWG manual where it says don't use dry acid.

Our salt numbers were identical at 3600 ppm. I think that's a first.

Ours has also seen a drop. It was very refreshing today at around 89 degrees given its normal temperature of around 93. Doesn’t sound like a lot, but it helped. We have no rain coming for a week so I’ll be in water and chlorine management mode.

Fooled around a bit with some projects that have been gathering dust in my brain. Can you guess what this is? @kimkats might know.

And here's another brain child. I was testing proof of concept today. I have a pool cam. One of its purposes is to monitor water level from afar. But I can't always tell exactly where the level is. So I sawed a plastic ruler in half and am now testing where I might want it to live. I had originally intended for it to be in the skimmer opening, mostly out of sight. But my pool cam can only see about to 4.5", because of the angle and the coping's overhang. Out in the pool is much better, but much more obnoxious. (Even more obnoxious than this idea!)

I've got the bottom of the ruler (0") even with the bottom of the skimmer opening. Because I don't have a main drain, zero or below means starving my pump, and every inch above is the countdown until trouble.

So I'll live with it a while before I decide to keep this idea or not. In this pic, my water level is 3-3/4" above the bottom of the skimmer mouth. If you look to the left and right of the ruler, you can see why it's difficult to see through a cam just where the water is. But the white ruler leaves no doubt. It also leaves no doubt I am a goofball.

Looks like a great idea!
I can see my giant white skimmer with mine so it does the trick.

I can see my skimmer opening with my cam, but because of refraction I can't tell what the level is, or how close the water level is to the bottom of the opening.

I think it is the arm from a sand filter.
What!? You don't keep track of my crazy ideas?!

Remember this? I'm finally getting around to encasing my pool temperature sensor. I've modified your idea a bit. I'll have to wait until our hurricane passes for the water to warm up enough to get in to epoxy it in place.

I picked up the Pro Tuff telescoping pool pole after my original builder supplied one bit the dust and wont' lock open. Have to say the new one is solid and with lifetime guarantee for replacement it should be a one and done. Was in pool when the mowing crews were in the neighborhood and it was windy. Ended up with fine coating of grass clippings and dust on my pool. Should have gotten out and closed the cover but my daughter was enjoying her swim. Hope the skimmer got most of it.
