What did you do to your pool today?

At my target FC-7, I can smell it on my skin after a dip.
That's your CCs because you didn't get out for a bathroom break. :ROFLMAO:
How is 20?
Nobody had a clue and there was no odor, even with 20 people in the pool. The bather residuals, shampoos, sweat, etc had to be making CCs, but it didn't smell.

Is that true? (Serious question.) Because sometimes I smell it on my skin, and sometimes I don't. FC is SWG-constant, of course, but CC sometimes gets up to 0.5. I'll have to do a little testing to see if I can find the correlation. Thx.

Pool adjacent today, besides the usual testing/cleaning.

For Mother’s Day instead of buying flowers we bought a bunch of annuals and had the little ones plant them around the pool. They all still are flowering like crazy after all the dead perennials at my house and in the area are dead. A great Mother’s Day gift we’ll hopefully be enjoying until Sept-Nov.

So fertilized them and dead headed.

Interesting, except no one is actually peeing in my pool, so that can't be it. Maybe it's the chlorine attacking me (since I am organic) and doing it's thing. Maybe my sweat, or skin?

And before anyone else gets to it, yes, I actually am organic. 🤖 Well, living tissue over metal endoskeleton, anyway.

Go do yard work for an hour - then plunge your sweaty arm into the pool - pull it out immediately and smell it.
That "chlorine" type smell is the chlorine reacting with your sweat and producing CC's.

Now, try the same with a clean arm - or rinse the sweaty one off really well in the pool. Then repeat the smell test - there should be very little to no smell of CC.

I really like my Pool Blaster Max battery powered vacuum, but the check valve design is a massive weak spot with it. It's just a little rubber flapper with two small holes where it attaches to plastic nubs. After sucking up debris, the rubber just rips and then when you lift the vacuum out of the pool the contents end up dumping back in.

I tried just buying a new head the first time this happened, but now that I realize it's just a bad design I figured I'd try to improve it with some hot glue. Time will tell on if this holds up long term.

My little intex one is like this- my work around is to leave the vac on while removing it from the pool. It only pukes its contents after I turn it off.

Nothing yet, but I'm ready! It's going to be crazy today! My biggest pool party of the year, and looks to be perfect weather. DJ and dancing, burgers, chicken, pot-luck, drinks and snacks and the nicest pool on the block. Then fireworks just a block down the street. Y'all ready? Have fun today everybody, Happy 4th!

Pool was looking perfect today- had a slight mishap with my cya in the skimmer sock. It got sucked to the basket & almost ran the pump dry, I ripped a little hole in it when removing it after my husband ran over to turn the pump off for me (i was inside the pool).
Didn’t see the hole & when I put the sock infront of the jet cya went flying. Got it all scooped up & dissolved and things were back perfect as my guests started to arrive. Ffw to the end of the day after swimming, bbq etc. & we’re all just sitting around under the carport chatting while processing about 100 ears of corn 🌽 a crazy storm blew in complete with hail & high winds. Dumped a mature oak tree’s worth of leaves into the pool along with tree bark, pine needles, the works! The deck furniture was nearing the edge of the pool before it was over. People were holding their chairs cuz they were flying. We saved the corn & the people. No major damage at our house. But my pristine pool was a wreck 😭 I was able to get alot of leaves out with the deep net so I could run the robot without clogging it up. What I thought was branches was actually huge piles of leaves. I scooped & scooped, dumped the skimmer umpteen times & poured in a gallon or so of liquid chlorine to sure my bets. I just now turned the pump off. Robert the robot has definitely earned his keep today. In the dark it looks like it’s pretty clean. We did get to enjoy the neighbor’s fireworks show after the rain let up. Robot is cleaned out, Corn’s in the freezer, kitchen is cleaned up, pool is as good as it gets tonight & this July 4th is a wrap! Night folks 👋

Here it is this morning, alot of small debris in the pool still. Not too shabby considering what it looked like yesterday. You could barely see the liner with the amount of debris 🍁 🍃
Robert 🤖 will begin his first shift in 5 minutes with the regular basket then go for round 2 with the pleated basket.
I brushed off the steps this morning. Waiting for things to dry up a bit & go after the deck, patio etc. with the leaf blower. Lots of limbs in the yard to clean up today 🧹 Looks like our garden fared ok. Some of our neighbors weren’t as lucky. Straight line winds are no joke!

It was a long night... Kids complained the pool was cold. I know that's not right because the heat pump is set to 90 degrees so their mom will actually get in the pool and not complain that its cold. I check a return to see if warm water is flowing only to find out no water is flowing. So I check my aqualink app, it says pool pump is running. I walked to the equipment pad and the pump is definitely not running. I try several times to get it to run and nothing. It would sound like it was trying to prime but there was not water movement in the basket. I then watched a youtube video on how to disassemble a Jandy pool pump and got to work opening it up. Found out that the shaft from the electric motor had completely sheered off. No clue why. I had been at the equipment pad earlier in the day and everything sounded fine so I assume this had happened in the last few hours. Lucky for me (or unlucky) I have 5 pool pumps for various things and they are all identical. I decided to swap my sheer descent/bubbler pump with the pool pump so I could continue to use the pool. After 3 hours (30 mins spent looking for a dropped bolt) I had everything swapped over and back up and running. Finished up around midnight. My equipment warranties expire in September so now I have to plead with my pool builder to come out and replace the pump. They have been horrible to deal with on warranty issues, usually taking 1 or 2 months to even come out to the house.

Aww man! Long night. Glad you’re back in business now. Take the pump to them if you have to & get it documented asap. Take time stamped pictures & email them, save that correspondence to prove you made a claim. Best of luck- warranties can be a pain.

Wow. Sorry, that's all I can come up with. Just wow! We do what we gotta do. Hopefully there was enough fun in there, too.

FWIW (maybe you can use some part of this MO): I don't use a sock, I use a "delicates" laundry bag I found at Walmart. It's a fine mesh bag with a zipper. I can see the CYA granules through it, so I can easily check my progress, and it doesn't stretch like a sock. I put the bag in the skimmer, but not loose, for the very reason you encountered. The bag is big enough that I can suspend it in the skimmer vault by trapping it in the concrete lid. So half the bag is outside of the skimmer, the other half is hanging down, well above the bottom of the basket.

I was just mentioning to my friend: I really enjoy July 5th, because on July 5th... July 4th is over!!! I had a blast, but looking forward to a calmer few days...

Your pool looks fantastic now, but this was my favorite part of your pic. I can imagine the conversation.
Three on the deck are just watching the five on the rail, waiting to see if they go.

Fourth on the deck: "Go for it!"
One on the rail: "Let's do it. She's not around."
Another on the rail: "Yah, yah, look at that water, come on!"
Third: "I dunno, I smell a trap."
Fourth: "Geez, what a bunch of pansies."
Fifth: "No way. I barely made it out of that blood bath last night! She's got some sort of roaming monster. No way. We lost too many good men. I'm outta here."

We had a pool party too. Ended a little early as we got notification that the town's (Amazing!) fireworks show had been moved up to an earlier start time due to impending stormy weather.

Now I have leaves and bark from neighbor's trees in the pool, and my pop-up canopy is in the yard with at least one broken leg!
