I thought this might be a good thread to maintain for a few days as the storm makes its way up the Florida peninsula and until it dissipates. Let's enter location and what we've done.

I live in Stuart on the east coast. I lowered the water level to the bottom of the skimmer and tested then adjusted pH then raised FC level to 25ppm with liquid Bleach this morning. Now that outer bands associated with a lot of lightning I tripped the sub panel breaker. I'll restart after the threat passes.

Planning a condo vacation to Destin next Sunday! Lord help us!

Woody,

I'm sure much of the state will be functional by then. The storm still is a ways from crossing the Keys and we already have 70,000 without power. 7,000,000 or so mandatory evacuated should be on their way back by then too.

I hope it works out for you, good luck!

Chris

Tallahassee here.......put up all deck furniture, got extra chlorine and will be keeping FC at just below SLAM level starting tomorrow late afternoon. Have pet bug out stuff all pack just in case we have to leave. Have motel res. set up in a tiny town in GA that will accept the pets and we can use back roads to get to it. We will decide tomorrow late afternoon if we leave.

This one is not fun but............still love living in FL!

I was at a rest area on 95 in MD today and several Floridians were still driving north. Presumably to relatives.

Student nurse niece was told to report to a hospital in Gainesville for several days. Works 12 on 12 off but gets paid 24/7. Dropped her cat at a friends, sandbagged her apt and went to work.

Sister did the outside cleanup then assisted neighbors. I guess a lot of furniture gets put into pools to keep it in place?

Kimkats,

Sounds like you've got a great plan - especially those reservations. We're seeing tornado warnings pretty close now. Outer bands are impressive!

Good luck to you and thanks for all you do on here!

Chris

PS Ditto on we love Florida!

I concur

Kim, do you think you will be leaving? Check on the traffic out of town this morning. If it is bad now late this afternoon may be too late to leave. My Rita evacuation took 28 hours for a 3 hour drive.

[emoji15] [emoji46] [emoji50] [emoji51] Wow...but I don't blame you! I doubt I'd have the courage to ride out a hurricane after our experience with Hugo, and I'm about 5 hours from the coast. We were without power for a week and had lots of storm damage. I can't imagine dealing with it on a regular basis.

We have a motel room waiting for us in a tiny town in GA. We can get to it by back roads. The truck is all packed (mostly pet stuff ) If we decide to ride it out we will call and let them "give" the room to someone that needs it as it is already paid for. We set this up long ago and gives me peace of mind to know we have it waiting for us. We just call and pay for the room on an as needed bases.

I will tell you that this is one we might leave for. The eye is said to come right over us. We are hoping for it to lower in strength. We plan on deciding by 4:00 our time.

Kim (This is NO fun)

GA is safe LOL They are saying the storm will be down to a 1 by the time it gets here. We are donating our room to another family that needs it!

It was kind of neat. Just as I was calling to say we would not be using the room a family from Miami walked in the door and needed a room! They got our room! I could hear the mom saying thank you over the phone as the room was already paid for! Win-win! Things work out for the best for all!

Waiting on eye to go over so we can start clean up.

The storm lost a lot of power as it came up this way. Naples got hit hard :(

We lost power at 2am [emoji30]and we are getting hammered with lots of rain. Just waiting to get the gen hooked up and time to Cook breakfast on the grill. Stay safe to all[emoji2]

Brent our local news is very worried about your area. You are getting hit a lot worse than we are.:(

Eggs on the grill are yummmmm

Yes KIM we are getting the trifecta effect of storm surge, rain water run off and high tide. Lots of areas down town has flooded and more to come. Avondale, San Marco, riverside and the landing downtown is underwater[emoji30]
