Pool builder sold us on the Wet Edge upgrade of Abalone shells. Said they'd "sparkle". Pools done now, doesn't really sparkle.

I don't know what I'm looking for, does anyone have any pictures to help understand if perhaps I've been mis-sold or I just don't know what I'm looking for?

It really depends on how they added the shells. If they added them to the plaster mixture then blew it on then you will not see much sparkle. If they had threw them on the top then you will see more sparkle.

It's not so much the shell sparkling as they make the water sparkle or shimmer more under sunlight and when the water is moving, more refracting. The water would look more flat w/o.

My PebbleSheen in Ocean Blue has abalone shell in it and when the surface water is moving from the pumps or wind the water definitely shimmers more. If the water is still there is little benefit.

As stated above, the abalone shell needs to be added before the last trawl to be most visible.
Now for the “sparkle”, yes it adds more to the finish because of its natural shine, the shallowness of the water will also have an impact on how much sparkle you can notice, the down side to abalone shell is that it will the weakest component of the plaster mix.
I personally have not seen a plaster job in a long while without abalone shell added to the mix.IMG_5833.pngIMG_5834.pngIMG_5837.pngIMG_5838.png

Thanks. The project manager happened to come out recently due to other project issues. He took a look and was like "uh, I see a few specs? Let me go talk to the install crew" so it doesn't sound promising. Like yes there are a few spots that light up, so many there was some built into the mix, but as an optional extra up charge... doesn't really seem like it was done.
