Hi. My husband just purchased a pool this summer and are new to the game. Are water is crystal clear. We followed the directions the pool store gave us for start up and chemical. We have a 24x52 pool, chlorine and vinyl lining. We live in Massachusetts and have a solar cover that has def. done the job of keeping the pool warm since around 3 pm each day it is then in the shade. I have tested my water 4 times at the local pool store each time we have gone our number have been drastically different. I feel as if they are just trying to have us buy chemicals that are a fortune if we keep doing this every week. They told us we need to add chlorine pucks (1 3 in a week in the floater), shock, and sanitize (granular cholrine) the pool every week on top of all the other stuff they have been tellings us when our water result come back so different each time. I feel like they are messing up. What do we really need to do for weekly maintenance . We have a floater with pucks in it and fabiratcate a way to ensure the floater can move around the entire pool while the cover is on. Thanks the advice in advance :)

Welcome to TFP!!!

I am PoolStored. Ask me why! Lol, or look at the poolstored thread here... Link--> I knew I was Pool Stored when...

First, get a recommended test kit. Pool store test is notoriously wrong as you have already determined. Link-->Test Kits Compared

Testing your water is the foundation of TFPC. Link--> What is TFPC?

When you test kit arrives, post up a full set of results and we'll get you going.

Until then, have a read here...Link-->Pool Care Basics
And here...Link-->FC/CYA Levels
and here...Link-->Basic Pool Care Schedule

The proof of TFP is in the pudding. Link-->How Clear is TFP Clear?
