Waxahachie, TX Owner Build - A race to beat the baby!

Thanks for the update! I have been thinking about you!

Ping pong balls! I use those to help with the return flow........fun to watch and learn the ways of your pool. Oh even better little duckies with numbers on them and have the kids guess which one will win!!!

LOVE the color!! Purrfect!

Kim

Jamie, I was hoping you were feeling MUCH. Better by now. Poor thing! Being sick is bad but being sick while pregnant is downright horrible!
I had the same thought about your hubby learning and doing the pool while you have been ill. Happy to hear it's going so well!

Your water color is gorgeous!!! Your pool looks amazing! Congratulations! You did it!!!

Thank you for all the compliments. We really like how it turned out and hope the acid wash goes well. The pebble is Stonescapes Tropics Blue mini with added hand cast abalone. The trim tile is Jules Rustic Blue blend from NPT and the water line tile is NPT Trident Tourquoise TRD-Tortoise.

Just got word that the acid wash guys are in their way. We had no rain all night, so that was an answer to prayers. Not sure if any got out Brian's way, but I did pray for that too! :)

I went to bed sick at 8 pm last night and feel pretty lousy this morning. Of all days! Fortunately this is my husband's off day, so he'll be learning really quickly how to test and dose the water!

Your pool is gorgeous and your color choices are pretty much the same I am planning so it is interesting seeing yours come together. You have done a great job Jamie and you will enjoy the fruits of your labor (and frustrations :)) for years to come.

Hi Jamie,

Quick question: What have you set your water quality targets to fr the first 30 days, esp. pH, CH, TA?

Hi Helen,

Sorry I've been out of the loop lately. I'm finally coming back to the land of the living after the flu hit me hard. I'm much much better, but still holding out hope to be 100% soon.

I'm not sure that what I am doing with my numbers right now compares to how you are starting up your pool. With the help of bdavis and OnBalance, among others, I've been doing a bicarbonate startup. Here is a link to my thread on that: Getting ready for O/B Bicarbonate Startup

Are you following the bicarbonate startup too? If so, I'm not sure if our target numbers would be the same since I think Brian determined mine based on my fill water. Right now all I am dealing with are PH and TA. The target for PH for me was between 7.8-7.9 and TA was 275. Somehow my TA got a little high, so now I'm targeting a slightly lower PH, around 7.6 or so.

Sorry if that isn't much help. This startup business is kind of intimidating to me too!

Thanks, Jamie, glad to read that you are on the road to recovery!!

I didn't know you have a separate thread, I'm going to head over there and check it out! Its a little overwhelming adding pounds of stuff to the pool! LOL

Wait until you add 400lbs+ of salt. That'll be fun ;)

How are you feeling, Jamie?

Any updates on the pool or new pictures?

Blessings!

Thank you for asking, Denise. I am feeling so much better, although there is enough residual weariness that I'm doing my best just to get the essentials done around here. So even though I took these pictures of the pool in full sun a couple of days ago, I haven't made the effort to upload them until now. Thank you for the prompting!

Mostly I've been trying to keep on top of the testing for the bicarbonate startup which seems to be going well so far. The kids are helping brush the pool, and I've been busy keeping the skimmers with the hairnets I'm using cleaned of all the oak seed things that were falling like crazy with all the wind yesterday. Maybe they all fell yesterday because I'm not seeing nearly as many today.

I haven't officially asked yet, but I'm assuming since the bicarbonate startup delays full balancing of the pool until 30 days, that I won't be seeing the final color of the pool until then. We've got a floater with chlorine pucks in it now (since these pictures were taken) but I doubt the chlorine is enough to really affect the color. So that is something to look forward to.

We also have to get the diving board and slide installed. I'm realizing how much more difficult it will make working around the pool, skimming and brushing, to have those in, but I'm sure they will be fun. We also need to figure out how to work our EasyTouch so we can test the lights in the pool. Right now I've just been running the pump manually which is working fine, but soon I need to figure out all the bells and whistles. That will be fun too!

A big thank you to all who have commented so far on the photos I posted before, and who were complimentary of the results of our efforts. I sincerely appreciated the sentiments, although I was too wiped out to reply at the time.

Ok, so here are the pictures I was talking about (....finally! :) ) No matter what the exact color ends up being, we are pleased with the range of colors given off by the Tropics Blue. And the abalone sparkle is great too!

It's so beautiful, Jamie!! It's making me rethink my plaster color....

I'm happy to hear you are feeling better. Being pregnant, you're likely going to take longer to get your energy back. Try to rest as you can and don't push yourself too hard. You need to be rested up for delivering that baby soon! What do you have left- 6-8wks?

I'm glad you like the color Denise, but don't rethink yours!!! Yours will be gorgeous and you'll be especially happy with it because it was your original love. I almost fell for changing colors at the last minute, but that would have been a very dangerous move!

You're right about the pregnancy adding to my tiredness. Being quite tired in the third trimester is par for the course for me. Fortunately, I can take naps since my bigger kids can work independently in the afternoons when the littlest are napping. I was 34 weeks on Monday and my official due date is May 2nd, so your estimate is right on track. I start going to the doctor every week next week. That should make the time pass even more quickly! So... My due date is getting closer, but there is a still awhile to wait. I typically go full term or late, so with the water in the pool, I guess we have officially "beat the baby"! I'll be sure to let you all know when the baby decides to arrive. :)
