Waterfall spill over from the Spa to the Pool isn't falling uniformly

I had my new pool filled with water a little over a week ago, so I'm new at this and am trying to work out all the kinks. The waterfall going from my spa down to my pool isn't doing so uniformly. Is this due to the tiles not being level?

Is this type of problem a common one? I wasn't sure if it has something to do with the water level in the spa, the pressure coming from the pump driving the waterfall, the stone that the water is running down, or something else.

Here is a picture. It is splitting in half and running down the wall.

Can you increase the flow? Is that edge just made of unsupported tile? If you run your hand along the spillway edge, does the flow over the tile even out?

I know my filter needs cleaning because the flow from spillover will dribble down the spa wall instead of pull away from the spillway. When I clean my filter, higher flow is restored and the spillway acts normal.

It looks like the edge isn't level and there's a bit of a hump in it. With more flow it might look better by filling in the center but that would just be hiding the problem (IMHO).

D,

Welcome to TFP...

I agree that more flow would help.

You can also try this.. Get in your pool and put your fingers on the bottom outside edges of the spillover, where the vertical tiles meet the horizontal tiles. If doing so, makes it better, you can add some clear silicone in place of your fingers.

Thanks,

Jim R. , I was thinking the same thing and that might well work or it might be that some additional silicone needs to be placed further up as it likely might not have time to spread out as it's coming down that chute if it's separating further up. maybe using something like duct tape to make some small dams below the surface in different places to see what it will take. This is where it would be nice to have a laser level to know where the high spot is.

DISCLAIMER ***I DON'T KNOW MUCH***

Picture looks just like my spa overflow with the flow pressure turned way down. Wants to go on the sides more than the middle. Set your valves so you have greater flow and I bet it evens out all the way across. Again, I'm no expert but it looks to me like you barely have much flow anyway as the water isn't even making it out and over the side of the spa as it descends. Just dribbling down. The overflow spill is not a very wide area so you would think that getting it absolutely level wouldn't be too hard of a job but who knows who finished it off that day. If you want absolute level I would think it would be a minor league job to take up those tiles and re-lay them. But I would just turn up the flow!

I had sort of a similar issue and I found re-positioning the spa return eyeball (more directly towards the spillway, which produced a more forceful flow over the edge as others have suggested, but without adjusting valves) helped enough for me not to worry about it anymore. Dang gravity!
