Liquid Chlorine
Opened my ag pool a few days ago. Water is looking decent after a few days. But my #s are not great.

My cya test was probably a 0. Accidently put in 20.

I've added liquid chlorine regularly. What should my next steps be to get my pool balanced?

Also, how long do the testing reagents usually last before expiring?

Thanks!

Mojo, your numbers aren't that bad. Buf it the water is cloudy from post-winter blues, you'll want to do a SLAM Process to ensure the water is crystal and algae-free. So you can increase the CYA to 30, the FC to 12, and maintain that FC of 12 until you complete the SLAM.

Now if you have doubts about whether a SLAM Process is warranted, you can always do an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test to be sure. Hope that helps.

Any brand or type recommended?
Whatever is cheapest. They're all chemically alike. It's like asking if Mortons salt tastes better than Leslie's salt. Go to Walmart or Home Depot or whatever the big box storess are in your area and look for stabilizer in the pool section. Read the label. If it's 99 or 100% cyanuric acid or isocyanuric acid, or something else with "cyanur" in the name, that's the stuff. Recommended Pool Chemicals - Trouble Free Pool explains more and also how to add it.
