Water Test Results - Help

I'm heading out of town and don't want anybody to have to mess with the pool. Test results in our SWG pool with 50 degree water is:

PH - 7.9 (just added MA)
TA - 50 (recommended levels are higher but have seen people on here say they keep it at 50?)
FC - 7
CC -0
CH -320
CYA - 60

I have 2 questions:

1. Other than the acid is there anything that can't wait until Monday and that I should do in the morning before I leave?

2. My SWG is at 14% output with a salt level of 2850 and my FC levels have been looking good without the need to add any liquid chlorine. With the test results above what should I concentrate on getting and keeping balanced at this point? Should I get my CYA back to 80, my CH to 400 and my TA to 80?

Test kit is a Taylor 2006.

Thanks!

I would not touch a thing right now! It seems happy so don't rock the boat until you come back.

PH/TA-How fast does your PH take to get up to 7.8? With your plaster still be so new it will rise as the plaster cures so I would not worry about it too much right now except to push it down as needed.

When you get back you can add some CYA if you want. With you have a swg the chart says a little higher. Right now it looks like your FC is holding so all is good.

As the water warms up is when you start to see the need to add and tweak. Keeping a good log of your test results will be what shows you when you need to make some changes.

I hope the trip is for fun! Don't worry about the pool the swg has it covered LOL

Pentair SWCG's have a low water temperature cutoff of 59 degrees. Below that they don't produce chlorine. I'm sure this varies some from unit to unit, but that's the documentation. The good thing is algae doesn't grow well below 60 degrees so FC depletion is greatly decreased.

So your SWCG may or may not be producing but you also don't need very much chlorine addition this time of year. I think most southern pool owners tend to switch to liquid chlorine during the winter because of the unknown of when your SWCG is going to stop producing. Then resume when the water warms up.

Nice FAQ from Pentair on their SWCG's: http://www.pentairpool.com/pdfs/IntellichlorQA.pdf Item 10 is where I referenced the 59 degrees from.

Funny, mine still runs all the way down to 56F. I wonder if they updated the cold water cutoff point...or, perhaps, it's just a discrepancy between the IC's internal thermistor and the water temperature probe in the plumbing that the EasyTouch panel displays...

Funny, my IC40 manual says the cold water cut off is 52 +/- 3 degrees...

The bigger problem for me is the salt level will read low whenever the temperature gets below about 60. The colder it is the further off the reading is ..

Whenever our salt has shown low we'll check with an actual salt test from the K-1766 drop test and so far they're pretty close in line.

That's weird about all of the different cold water info. Our SWG seemed to work just fine between 50-60 degrees. At least until recently. Lol.

I have the same problem with the low salt errors when the water gets into the mid-lower 60s. I think Pentair has improved the temp sensor/correction. Maybe hers is newer. Mine was installed in 2012.

You could have a bad thermistor temp sensor in yours. You might try getting a replacement flow sensor & thermistor to see if it helps. If only Pentair allowed users to easily access the diagnostic data on the units, it would be very easy to figure out. But alas, like most of their stuff, it's made to not be easy for the pool owner to diagnose.

Mine has poor temperature compensation as well. I just ignore it and go off my salt test readings. Luckily they've always been a few hundred ppm within each other so my cell never thrown a "LOW SALT" error.

Yeah, I just turn it off and use bleach. Even easier! :)

Funny, I think my cell reported COLD CUTOFF for like a week during this non-winter winter we had. It has run on and off for weeks. It ran just enough that I think I only added a half gallon if bleach all winter long.

So there you have it ... SWG saving me money and making my life easy ...
