Hi everyone! I am new as a pool enthusiast and recently i've been reading a lot regarding water chemistry and because our tap water is rich in calcium i decided to avoid cal hipo because it raise the calcium level and the water looks cloudy. My pool is a above ground vinyl pool and i started to use liquid bleach , but i notice a change in the water taste. I am using original , or regular clorox household bleach. Will using this cause the kind of unpleasant taste in the water ? will you recommend to use something else ? I'll appreciate any suggestions.
best regards and be safe!

Also -- at least here in the mainland, Clorox does not sell plain bleach. It all has Cloromax in it. That is a polymer that is not for use in pools.

Hey there Groovee.... Liquid chlorine or *plain, unscented, non-thickened, non-Clorox brand* bleach is ideal. Clorox started putting polymers in to their bleach product and you don't want tht in your pool. If you can find the simplest bleach product without "Cloramax Technology" type words on the label try it.

I personally avoid all the Clorox brand pool products also- many have copper which isn't obvious to the pool owner until they get stains in their pool and wonder why? Others like the salt have iron in some bags and have also stained plaster.

See if you can get "liquid shock" or "Liquid Chlorine" from pool stores or Walmart.

Welcome to the forum!
Post a full set of test results. Pool water is not for drinking, but the only taste I have ever had is salt.
I suggest you read ABC's of Pool Water Chemistry.
Thanks a lot!! regarding tests , ph=7.4, free chlorine (dpt) 4ppm, total alk 70, cya 40, calcium 350-400. you are right is not for drinking, but since i am using the clorox bleach it taste like just that , detergent and with the cal hipo the taste is like clean water. Thank you for the advice!!!
