Water still cloudy - been at this 4 weeks!

Since I opened my pool 4 weeks ago, I still have cloudy water. Note: my pool looks like a sludgy pond when I take off the cover. I used shock and liquid chlorine and ran the pump non-stop. No improvement. I went to a pool store and was advised to clean the filter, which I did, with muriatic acid. They said to shock the pool by adding 8 bags of shock and run the pump. No improvement. For a second opinion, I had water tested at another store. They said to add alkalinity, reduce ph and then add 8 bags of shock. No improvement. I went back to the first store and they said to just add 6 bags of shock and run the pump 24x7 for two days. The attached photos are from day 2. The first two are what the water looked like this morning, 6/12. Any help is greatly appreciated. Note: we have used test strips for 22 years with good test results. One store uses a test kit and said the strips are no good. The other store said use the test strips as the test kits can be inaccurate as the chemicals might not be used correctly.

Welcome to the forum!
You need to follow the SLAM Process. To do that, you need a proper test kit. I suggest the TF-100/Pro or Taylor K2006C. A proper test kit is needed to get the accurate water chemistry results needed to follow the TFP protocols.

While you are waiting on your test kit, add 5 ppm FC worth of liquid chlorine / plain bleach to your pool each evening with the pump running. This will replenish the FC lost each day to the sun and also inhibit any algae in the water from growing further.
I suggest you read through Pool Care Basics - Trouble Free Pool and even look at a few of our videos TFP-TV - Trouble Free Pool
