Hello,
I have been using the SLAM process for 2 weeks now. My pool is finally holding chlorine and looks so much better! My CC level is still above .5 so I'm still doing SLAM and hoping I can be done soon. The problem is the water remains very cloudy. I can't see the bottom at all so it's hard to know that I've gotten all surfaces clear with the brushing and vacuuming I'm doing. Should I try to lower the alkalinity with muratic acid? Would that help?

Filter has been running 24/7 and I'm brushing and vacuuming at least once a day, backwashing usually 2 or 3x a day.

Here are the test results from today:
FC - 8.5
CC - 1
CH - 250
CYA - 30
TA - 250

Follow the SLAM Process
Assume you have a sand filter. Be sure to wait until the filter pressure is 25% over the clean filter pressure.
Focus on the SLAM. Only test FC during a SLAM.

Thanks for the info - I thought I was doing a good thing by backwashing frequently. My gauge hovers between 8-10 so I wait until it's up near 15 then before I backwash?

Yes, I have a sand filter and have updated my signature to show that.

Ok thanks I get it now (I think lol)

I was re-reading the SLAM page again and I see it says I can use DE to help my filter.
Does TFP have a recommended brand of pool-grade DE or are either of these ok?
