Water level when I remove the lid from my pump

For as long as I've been working with my pool, when I removed the lid from my pump (because I want to clean the basket for example), the water level inside the pump fell.

Recently however, the water level seems to stay intact, or actually rise until it overflows the pump.

Seems like something is blocked, but I'm not sure where to look. Suggestions?

8434,

In most pools, the pump lid is about a foot or so above the water level in the pool. When the lid is on the water stays in the pipe, just like water stays in a straw when your thumb is on the top of the straw... When you take the lid off, it is the same as taking your thumb off and the water will drain out of the pipe and back into our pool.. Water level will have some effect how it drains.

If the line were plugged, so that it will no longer drains, then I would think that the pump would very quickly run out of water.

Unless you have some other issue, I would not worry about it...

Let's see what our other members have to say...

Thanks,

Jim R.
