Hello all, this is our third year enjoy your saltwater pool in Texas. We follow the TFP method and use the app to balance our water. That being said during the summer it is a struggle to keep the chlorine where it needs to be. We run our salt cell and pump 12 hours a day at 70% output and keep CYA around 80 and I still struggle to keep the chlorine level above a 4 without adding liquid chlorine. Its hot in Texas and it gets direct sun. A friend of mine swears by the water choice enzymes which claim while using you can keep your chlorine as low as 1ppm. Curious if anyone has used this product with a salt pool and if so how would that effect where we keep our cya. I’m assuming if we try and keep a lower chlorine level we need to lower the cya as well. Would love feedback on the enzymes and in general how everyone keeps thier salt water pools producing enough in July and August in Texas. The rest of the year isn’t a problem.

Ignore the enzymes. Up the run time on your pump to create more chlorine.

Do you have a variable speed pump?

Tex,

A 15K pool needs at least a 30K, or a 40K cell in Texas...

Enzymes are not going to fix that issue.

Run your pump 24/7.

Thanks,

Jim R.
We have a 40k cell, 24 hours?? My understanding is the more hours the salt cell is ran the faster it needs replacing. Currently we run it for 12 hours a day at 70% output.

This is true. However, running 100% for 12 hours is the same as running 50% for 24 hours.

The whole point of having the SWCG is to make enough chlorine to sanitize. To not run it because you're afraid needing to replace it counterproductive.

You need to run it for as long and at a % to maintain your FC.

What RPM do you run your pump?

At your current pump runtime and SWG percentage, your SWG can't keep up with chlorine demand.
Your choice to up the runtime and/or percentage or add liquid to make up the difference.
No magic potions are going to supply the needed chlorine for you.

And your FC demand is from the insane Texas UV.

Unless the enzymes pitch you a tent over the pool, you'll use 4+ppm a day in the peak season.
