Hello,
I am a new pool owner. We got it installed about a year ago.
I have issues with water behind liner when it rains. We installed drainage and it didnt help.
I finally realized that water is seeping through the cantiliver coping expansion joint. I tested it with a water hose. I was suspicious as i had also noticed it when kids were jumping in the pool.
Its a brand new pool and ive been going back and forth with the PB. Any advice? Picture attached. Thank you so much!!

Your problem is ground water is draining under your deck and into the pool.

You need better water management around your deck to divert storm water or irrigation water away from the deck. Your problem is not with your pool but with your landscaping around the pool. Check that your irrigation system is not leaking.

You could also have ground water and a high water table with possibly an underground stream nearby. That may require putting in some well points to drain the ground water from around the deck.

Thank you! We put drainage around the pool to divert water. That is working well. I put a waterhose to let water run through the coping that it is getting through it definitely.

Show me pictures of your deck and coping.

Some water that gets on your coping will naturally drain into your pool. Where would you expect it to go?

The water flows into the pool, but it seeps through that open area and gets behind the liner. The concern i have is that it gets behind the liner. We put pipes around the pool for drainage and that works well.

Is the lip on your deck too short and the water flowing from the top of the deck around the lip and into the open slot?

Get foam backer rod and stuff it in the joint. It comes in various thicknesses and see what fits best.

Thanks! Since its a brand new pool, should i be asking the PB to address something related to construction? They told me it was ground water until we found the source of the issue.

I think it will be quicker and better quality if you DIY. Builders usually do not fill the joint.
