Warped baffle

Hello,

I have been experiencing an ongoing issue with my Hayward TCell940 salt cell. The white baffles keep getting dislodged and warped, which subsequently causes the salt cell to stop functioning effectively. My pool is less than a year old, and we are now on our second salt cell, which has encountered the same problem. I reside in the greater Phoenix area, but I do not believe the heat is the cause, as the first cell was damaged in the same manner before the temperature started rising.

As shown in the attached images, the baffles are warped and have shifted from their original positions. Our salt levels and other chemical balances are within the recommended ranges. However, the "Check Salt" and "Inspect Cell" lights frequently flash even though our salt levels are consistently around 2700 ppm. We recalibrate the instant salt levels, and the lights stop flashing, but they come back on a few hours later. In the first salt cell, the baffles completely detached inside the unit, as depicted in one of the pictures.

Unfortunately, our pool builder has been unresponsive throughout this entire process, and we are unable to get any assistance from him. We have also contacted other preferred Hayward pool companies, but none of them have replied or shown up to inspect the issue. We eventually got Hayward to send us a replacement cell only for this to happen again.

I would greatly appreciate any insights on how to resolve this problem or understand its root cause.

Thank you for your assistance.

Welcome to TFP.

What controller is your T cell plugged into? Aquarite? Aqualogic? ProLogic? OmniLogic?

Is your Aquarite controller power OFF when your pump is not running?

Why do you have a separate Aquarite controller?

Why isn’t the cell plugged into the OmniLogic?

Final question and I will reveal my diagnosis - what is your pumps daily run schedule?

Your Aquarite cell is trying to generate when your pump is off and there is no water flow. That is creating heat in the cell which is warping the plate. Your flow switch to the Aquarite should turn it off with NO FLOW and that is stuck closed or installed incorrectly so is not working.

The easiest fix is to plug the cell into the Omnilogic panel. The Omnilogic panel can then control the pump and cell and will turn the cell off when the pump is not running.

I do not see where the Omnilogic panel is located in your equipment pad pictures.

That makes sense to me. We don't have a spare panel like the AuqaRite, just touch screen control panel.

Sounds like you have the OmniHub and your builder did not interconnect the Omnihub and the Aquarite.

I think the box in red is your OmniHub.

There is a conduit in green that runs between the Omnihub and Aquarite.

I would need to see what that cable connects to.

Do you have a multimeter and know how to test ohms or continuity?

Circled in orange on the lower left is the flow switch for your Aquarite. If you follow the wire it should connect into the bottom of the panel.

Unplug the flow switch cable form the panel and put your multimeter probes on the center two pins - 3 & 4. You should find the switch is open when the pump is off and closed when the pump is on.

If the switch is closed when the pump is off you need to replace the flow switch.
