Yep - A pole. Am I supposed to get that on my own?

Yes. A good telescoping pole is a must have item. Don't go too cheap as the Achilles heel is usually the twist-lock mechanism and the cheaper poles have cheaply made locks.

Your best bet is a 12-14' metal pole. There are also fiberglass poles but they tend to be quite a bit heavier and, overtime, the fiberglass starts to wear and you get exposed to glass fiber on the pole.

OK - I see what I need now. Can you recommend a decent one that will last? Reviews are all over the board for every pole I found.

If you're looking for a pole that will last you a while, I recommend one of the Skimlite poles. I have the Dually pole, while a great pole, it is a bit too heavy for me but fine for my husband. Their eliptilock poles I believe are lighter but still a great pole. You could look at their site, if you find one you like, then google it to find the best price and/or where to get it. I had to order mine on line because no place near me carried them. Skimlite | Poles

My experience with a fiberglass pole that I never used but it sat with a safety hook on it in the sun full time is that after 3 years it was untouchable due to fiberglass splinters. So I painted it with two coats of Rustoleum spray paint for plastic. This only works for poles you don't actually use. Ha!

If you actually used a fiberglass pole, at least the way I do on my pool sides, the pole is always rubbing on the coping which would create splinters almost immediately. So as above, a good quality aluminum pole is what I suggest.

Yeah, when I bought my skimlite back in 2009, I found a really good deal on a site, can't remember which though. You made a great find! That Jed pole looks great, very sturdy and you're right, lots of good reviews. Enjoy! :)
