10k pool. Got lazy and started using guess strips. Anywho I was getting a very low TA and high PH so I started adding Baking Soda. 10 here and 10 there and was still low so im thinking somthing is up. I buy the Taylor K-2006 and restest and discover my TA (375) and PH (red as can be) are sky high. Had some dry acid laying around (Sodium bisufate) so dropped about 3 lbs in. Ran for 48 hrs and readings still sky high. Understandable since they are so high. I grab 2 gallons of Mueratic Acid. Mix half a gallon in a bucket with water then drop in pool. Mix other half gallon and again drop in pool. Right then I remember your not suppsoed to add that much at once. Do some google detective work and confirmed.

Anyways after all these fails Im just wondering if adding htat much is critical. Not gonna make that mistake again but is there anything I should do or just let it run another 24 or 48 and test again and then add SLOWLY until I get desiered ranges? Thanks

Let your water chemistry settle down, and then add 18 oz of 31% muriatic acid to lower the pH 0.4 at a time. Add, retest, and repeat until your pH is in the 7s. Then see where your TA lands.

As you've proven to yourself, these cause more problems than they attempt to solve. Throw them out.

Good choice. Do you have a SpeedStir or other stirring device?

Had some dry acid laying around
In the future, use MA exclusively instead of dry acid.

Mix half a gallon in a bucket with water then drop in pool.
No need to premix. Just pour the MA directly from the jug into the pool.

Don't mix muriatic acid with water in a bucket prior to adding to pool. No need to double-handle it.
With the pool pump running on high, add the muriatic acid in a pencil sized stream in front of a running return. Let the pool run for about 20-30 minutes after to mix the acid in.
