Very green lagoon style pool - helping friend learn TFPC and getting control of pool

Very green lagoon style pool - helping friend learn TFPC and getting control ...

Hey all, finally getting a chance to update you after checking out the pool tonight. First, the owner (my friend) was in the pool today in his wetsuit (no scuba gear this time, maybe tomorrow) and was brushing by hand all the returns, around the lights, skimmers, etc. He looked hard at the lights and did not see any markings on them, nor any way to get them out. He also thought they almost appeared plastered in. My only thought is maybe they screw in? We will try to turn one a bit tomorrow. But he spend a lot of time vacing and cleaning today, and I could really see a clarity improvement in the shallow end big time today.

But today's FC consumption was high. Over 12 hrs, during the day, the pool consumed 9ppm. So we're still fighting I think, but given that he was cleaning so much, he likely uncovered some fresh stuff not yet killed...he does also have a floor jet system too, which doesn't work right now, so no way to turn those jets on in case there is algae stuck in there too. Maybe do the garden hose thing, and bring it down when he dives, and at least try to blow the lines out? This is day 9 of me taking this pool from green to clean. It first went to being able to see the bottom at 5.5 days, so that last 10% is being a bear. ;)

With the FC drops I think you are right in the super brushing did find something.

The infloor system does have me wondering if you are onto something.

I forgot to open my main drain valve one time after doing a vacuum. Towards the end of the week I notice my FC was dropping faster than usually....I had to do a back track to see if I could find the problem.........when I found the valve closed I KNEW where it was..........all of that water sitting in the main drain and pipe was brewing something!

I opened the valve and turned the pump on high and closed the valve to the skimmer to force the water through the maindrain pipes. I also used my turkey baster to put some chlorine right into the main drain.

Once I did that my FC use went back down to normal.

Good luck!

Kim

So much improved clarity this morning! Very pleased. FC only lost 2ppm overnight in 13 hours. CC was 0.5. I'm going to have my friend blast all orifices with a garden hose to flush out any hidden algae. Those lights aren't moving. SCUBA time.

Deep end.

Think I'm going to try the overnight loss test tonight. I still lost about 6ppm today but I'm wondering how much of that was due to sunlight. Seems like a lot though. But water clarity looks fantastic so I want to see what happens overnight.

Here's some pics.

Taking another run at OCLT test tonight. FC was 14 at 8pm. Pool looks amazing. Crystal clear today. CC 0. I feel good about tonight. If so it will have been 11 days to go from a swamp to a beautiful, oasis again.
