Very green lagoon style pool - helping friend learn TFPC and getting control ...

Green to clean in 5.5 days! I arrived this morning able to see the entire pool bottom, even the deep end. CC is 1 so still slamming today but I may be on to the OCLT tonight.

All that brown on the bottom is dead algae. It will be swept towards the main drain today.

I estimated 20 bottles of bleach to get this done which was in addition to the gallons of 12% they still had from the pool store. I'm at 18 used as of now. :)

Woo hop!

I would not sweep. I would vacuum slowly so you can sneak up on the dirt and get it OUT of the water into the filter to be cleaned out all of the way!

That is a nice looking pool there sir! You have done a great job. Now to polish it! Make is look like the jewel it should be !

So here's a question...since I don't have gunite myself, I haven't had to deal with staining, likely from iron in the water...

If you look at some of the pictures, even after brushing, there are some spots with staining. My friends says most of it was there, but i thought i read ascorbic acid or someth8ing like that, to clean it up. I'll head over to Pool School to freshen up on that, but I thought I'd throw it out there for advice.

Also, FC consumption was 3ppm overnight, so still SLAMing.

You are correct about the AA. You want to get the algae cleared up first, though. All the way to passing the 3 tests. Because the treatment of the stains can make the FC crash. And you sure don't want that, right in the middle of a SLAM!!

Once you are ready, then test a small area first to make sure it's metal and not organic. Metal responds to AA. Organic responds to chlorine tablet.

Thanks. I'll look that over for after the SLAM.

Interesting day today, day 8. Still cloudy in the deep end. I can make out the bottom easily but it's far from clear. Chlorine consumption surprised me today too. 8ppm. I left it at 20 at 7:30 this morning and just now, 3:30 it was 12 the minimum I want for the SLAM.

I will go back tonight around 8pm to check again and top off if needed. CCs are still 0 though. So still fighting it I guess. That's the most it's consumed in one period so far. We did have good sun today though. Maybe I measured incorrectly this morning as I was in a bit of a rush and only did a 5ml sample (so counted each drop as 1ppm).

Wow, It's looking great, and improving so well. The larger loss could just be something that got stirred up in there allowing the chlorine to do it's job and eliminate it. Just keep on keeping on, and Have a wonderful day. :)
