Valve Function

Hi Everyone

my son decided it was a good idea to mess with the valves on the pool equipment. Since I rarely mess with these I’m a little confused as to their functionality.
I figured out the one on the left controls the suction balance between the skimmer and main drain.
Any ideas about the one in the right and is it in the best position?

Insufficient data. Do you have a spa? Do you have a suction side cleaner, or at least a port for one? Multiple skimmers?

sorry. No spa. single skimmer.

suction side cleaner.... There is a port on the wall where I could hook up a hose to clean the pool. The cover is spring loaded and always shut since I never use this option. I think is what you are referring to.

I see the photo I attached has been reoriented. The valve I'm questioning is the one at the top of the picture

I believe this is what they each do.

If the one on the right you have determined is the vacuum port, then it is in the correct position of closed since you are not using it.

I see it as left side: drain/skimmer. Right side: cleaner.

As the valves are now, the left is split 50/50. The right is shut off. Move the right handle clockwise 90 degrees and feel for suction at that sidewall port.

Experiment a little and you'll identify what goes where. When you know, close off the cleaner unless there's one attached and you want it running. Turn the skimmer to full then slowly open the drain until you can just detect a difference in the skimmer.

Since you have three suction devices, then the pipes have to go to... Skimmer, Main Drain, and Suction cleaner..

It is almost impossible to feel any suction at the main drain, so just determine which one is the Skimmer and which one is the cleaner, and assume the other is the main drain.

We can guess and assume which is which, but only you, will be able to tell for sure. Open all three valves, then just shut off each one, one at a time, and see which one turns off the skimmer and which one turns off the cleaner.. Then you will know which is the main drain.
