Valve Actuator for Drain/Skimmers?

I'm planning on setting up a Pentair automation system. I'm just curious if there's any reason to put a valve actuator on the pre-pump side between the Skimmer and Main Drain intakes? Is there ever any reason that connecting that to automation would be beneficial, or should I just keep a standard Jandi Valve in place?

Thanks guys!

I don't see any need. Each of those should have a valve so you can shut them off or adjust them individually, but I don't see a need for automation. You'll dial them in and then rarely touch them. I have the main drain turned off and skimmers on full and never touch them, this helps maximize the skimming action. The only thing is if you were trying to vacuum from a skimmer or something like that and didn't want to have to go turn a valve, but not in today's world, you'll have a cleaner or robot.

Save your automated actuators for your returns. Depending on which panel you get, the ET8 only controls pool/spa mode and then only has 2 more actuators (you can use a 3rd if you don't have solar). I've got a couple of top sprays and a bubbler and I put the actuators on them. I want to add the third to control the normal return into the spa so I can turn off the water fall most of the day.

DS,

Unless you have a Spa, then I can't see a reason to automate any valve except maybe a vacuum port and/or a water feature.

The ET is designed to automate the Intake valve and Return valve, so you can select Pool mode, Spa mode, or Spillover mode.

Valve A is used for solar, or can be used as programmed by the owner. Valve B can be used as programmed by the owner.

Thanks for posting,
