New to this forum but I know someone in here has a confident solid answer. I’m going to contact Hayward on Monday for confirmation but here’s my question in a nutshell without explaining tons of detail. Need/want to add another actuator to my Omni PL system. Thing is there are 4 valves already installed to the panel. So the pool builder and Hayward local rep is saying only 4 valves max can be controlled by the PL. From reading the manuals and looking at the add on relay kits it seems I can add additional relays but do the relays allow control of actuators or no? I only see 4 connections for actuators on the board so I just want to run this by yall and see if there is anyway to control a 5th actuator independently. Thank you in advanced!

You can control an actuator using a high voltage AUX relay using this circuit. Aux relays use two wires - 24 VDC and ground. Valve actuators use three wires - two 24 VAC lines and ground. AC on one line will turn the valve one way and AC on the other line will turn the valve the other way.
You could use the Aux relay to control the 24 VAC so that it will turn the valve using the following circuit. But normal Aux relays won't work as they do not have any Normally Closed contacts. You need a relay that has NC and NO contacts.

If you can add a relay, you can add an additional valve actuator.. But... The normal relays that come with an automation system only have a set of normally open contacts. You need a relay with normally closed and normally open contacts.. It also makes sense to have a separate 24 VAC source (Transformer).. Here is the basic idea...

Makes sense. So I need a separate transformer or I can tie into 24v on the board somewhere? I do have two additional HVR slots left inside the panel.

Most system are designed to move two valves at the same time, plus some extra.. Having an external transformer is just a cheap way to ensure that you don't blow up your existing system.
In most cases, using the existing 24 VAC is not an issue. Just something that I personally would not do.
Any 24 VDC single pole double throw (SPDT) relay will work. The problem is how to mount it.. You can use the '2-speed' relay for your system, which should have a place to mount it, but they are $$$$.
It will operate like any of your Aux Circuits.. It will work just like your lights work now.. So, if you can turn on your lights from your phone, then you can turn on this aux circuit from your phone.

I can figure a way to mount it that’s not an issue. I assume it has to have a signal to close and to open or it moves back to the original position once it is turned on or off depending how it’s set up?04,

There is no 'set up'...
Basically, if the Aux relay is on, the valve will move one way, and when the aux relay is off, the valve will move the other way.. The Actuator works off of 24 Volts AC.. That is the voltage that is connected to the contacts of the relay.. The automation sends 24 Volts DC to the coil of the relay, when it wants the relay to 'turn on'..

Sorry I replied but edited this reply. I didn’t see your reply Jim now I do. Gotcha makes sense. Are you aware which signal has 24v? Is it the LS bus bar?
It's making sense to me now. So you use a HVR relay to control the 24v relay. Then just program the HVR for whatever you want to call it or program it as. That's what i was trying to figure out was what is controlling or signaling the 24v relay. This is easily doable. Do you have a link to a relay that will slot into that relay base?
