Vacuuming during partial drain

First year with the pool. Took over a pool we discovered had sky high CYA (previous owners must’ve loved pucks). So we are doing a 50% drain. I’d also like to clean and vac out some “organic matter” while I’m doing this! Can I still use my pool pump to hook up the hose style vac, and put it to waste? The level of the pool will be well below skimmer.
If not any suggestions? I would eventually like to buy a robot vac but this job is likely too much for a robot.

Depends if you have a main drain that can provide sufficient flow to the pump.

You risk your expensive pool pump running dry and being damaged.

There are standalone vacuum systems used by pool services...
