Vacuum plate insides skimmer basket

Guys

i know that a vacuum plate should sit on the skimmer basket but what if it is a little smaller than the the basket itself and sits inside of it instead of sitting on the edge?

Is there a problem with this?

You need it to form a seal or too much water will whoosh around the plate instead of sucking through the hose. If the plate goes all the way to the bottom, you'll also loose the collection space for any debris that you vac up.
