UV Light Recommendations

Anyone have a particular UV light they would recommend? It is for a small (24,000 gallon) commercial indoor pool that currently uses bromine as the sanitizer and has issues with CC over time which I am looking to reduce. I understand it may cause a slight increase in bromine/chlorine demand, but we have a lot of bathers and I thought having a unit on a timer while bathers are using the pool would be a good idea since the pool hardly gets any sunlight (3 small skylights) to deal with the CC issue. I am also using the SeaKleer stage 1 and 2 clarifier, but it is not totally tackling the problem.

I have looked at Pentair Bioshield, Spectralight, Delta and Paramount systems. The Pentair and Spectralight seem to be more of an in-line tube and the delta and paramount units seem to be more of a "container" that the water passes through. The spectralight quote I got was double the quote for the Delta and Paramount and I am just wondering if there is any benefit to having the spectralight/pentair bioshield design vs the Delta/Paramount systems (which are half the price). If anyone has had any experience with these I would greatly appreciate it. I am not looking to spend several thousand dollars just to help reduce CC, but would like to better address the issue.

Also, would any of these units reduce the FR/GPM of water re-entering the pool? I have to keep it around 70GPM to get the proper turnover for the state and I just wanted to ask if installing one of these would/could reduce that. Probably a dumb question.

Thanks,

We normally don't recommend UV systems, but in your case with a commercial indoor pool, a UV system will work as long as it's sized and maintained properly.

I personally like the Delta EM unit, though all the systems will work. Since you're a commercial pool I would strongly recommend a unit that utilizes a medium pressure lamp. They do a much better job of disinfecting the water than low pressure lamps do. They cost more than low pressure lamps, but you don't want to take a chance in a commercial setting.

Don't make the mistake of viewing this installation as just getting rid of CC's. That's a very minute reason to be installing a UV system in a commercial setting.

WOW! Did that just sound like a sales talk! :hammer:

Seriously, since you have a lot of users, don't skimp on the system. Don't settle for anything except a medium pressure lamp unit. Once you compare apples to apples I think you'll find the systems a lot closer in cost.
