Using AGP to temporarily store water

OK, not sure if this is a good idea or not but I am almost done setting some of the waterline tile (60 of them). I have been doing this with the EZPatch 4FS.
Grouting the tile is a pain under water. It seems like twice as much dissolves in the water than what I'm getting into the grout lines.
I want to drain the water to below the tile which would need to be about 3-4" right now. 3" in my pool I estimate at 1300gal.
I can drain that out with my pump in about 10-20 minutes
I am on well water, that would take about 5-7 hours to put 3-4" back in with my well pump. Plus the wear and tear on the well filtering system.

I have a spare booster pump. I was thinking I could conserve the water and pump it into an Above ground pool placed onto my deck.

Not sure flow rate on the 3/4HP booster pump but my guess is it would transfer in about an hour?

Only concern about the pool is what the pool would do to the pavers on my deck. I"m calculating it as 103lbs/sqft

Crazy idea?

I can’t answer about the pavers, but I don’t think it is a crazy idea. I’ve seen YouTube videos of people using Intex or similar for temp water storage.

If you are worried about the well, then you can certainly store the water temporarily.
Do you have a full set of test results on your existing data? Perhaps you do not want to store it

I would think your pavers should be OK. The weight will be evenly distributed and if your calculations are correct, that is less than me standing on 1 leg

Water is great, With all the dumpin due to rain , just needs a tad CYA CH and Salt
Filling up with well water would only make that worse

My experiment has started
12’ x. 30”

The pump is raising it 1” in 5mins
I estimate about 2.5hrs to fill

I am going to stop when there is still enough water in the main pool to keep the pump running tomorrow then start up again as I’m working on the tile after work. I should be able to complete the top 2 rows during the remaining fill. Then the rest on wed and then return the water on Thursday

Something to consider, though not sure what to do about it. I dropped my water to work on my coping. I was doing a type of sealing, the chemical for which got in the water. All went well, until I went to replace water some years later. I had a permanent ring right where I had dropped the water level to. An attempt was made to sand it off, with mixed results. It didn't really show when water was in the pool, and I've since resurfaced, so it was ultimately a non issue for me. But it was never clear to me if this was because I exposed the surface for a couple days, or because the scum from the chemical I used created the ring, or a combo?

Point is: you'll be working with the water level below the tile, and you'll be working with stuff that potentially could adhere itself to the plaster, and you'll have your plaster exposed to air and your work stuff for some number of hours or days. That might leave a ring. Or not. That ring might be visible when you're done. Or not.

So should you mask somehow? Or keep the surface wet? Or scrub often? Or pump the water in and out between sessions? Dunno. Maybe someone else here will...

I should have gotten the 15’ diameter one. I ended up having to drain out another 1.5” after this Unitec filled up.
I finished the tile work tonight. I am going to let the grout harden and return the water after work Thursday. I have the sump pump in the main pool hooked up to the patio light outlets so I can circulate water in the pool. Floater with 4 pucks are in there and I can add liquid chlorine to the intex if needed. I had bumped chlorine to 8 before doing the last transfer tonight. Deck is sloped some so I could not fill the intex all the way

All done. Used the main drain of the Intex, a spare hose and the sump pump to put the water back in. Took about an hour till there was about 1-2" left in the Intex, then all the work started to get the last bit out. I still had to put in about 700 more gallons with the well water back into the pool. I ended up running 3 hoses from the house and looking at the flow meter on the water softener, I was pumping out about 9 gallons a minute. So, I saved some water in transferring to the Intex Pool and some wear and tear on the well pump but I sure spent more time doing it.

Conclusion: Not worth the trouble. Especially now that have 3 hoses to refill the pool and that the $50 pool only held 65% of the water I pulled out.

Transfering to Pool:
3 hours to setup, transfer water. About 2 hours actively working.
3 hours to pull water out, tear down, dry out and put away, About 2 hours actively working

Dump water & refill
15 minutes to dump. 15 minutes actively working (I would use main drain and a vacuum hose plugged into the only skimmer I do not shut off.
3 hours to refill (About 30 minutes actively working)

I ended up with 4ppm Chlorine after refilling and no CC
I will likely have to add some other stuff back in, but that's no different than draining from a large rainfall.
I have not calculated how much $ in electricity I spent on well water, but i don't think it was significant enough to count.
I can say this, I have a very deep well and it can run for a long time.

When you do a mass filling of the pool hook up enough hoses/pump enough volume that the well is not kicking on and off and there will be no wear and tear on the pump

Right,
I actually timed it last night. It the well pump running at 5mins on and 1 minute off. I have one more hose bib in the parking area I can try to run to the pool next time I have to fill. I'll need some more hose to do that but will get some the next time I have to do this.

What is the difference between time spent and "actively working?"

Yea, I think I'll move to the 4 hoses next time so I can sit in the shade and listen to Music instead.
