With regard to testing and adding chlorine daily, are people relying exclusively on the comparator block and R-0600 test for this? I find its hard to read the results of the comparator block and never feel more than 80% confident in my reading. I like the precision of the R-0870 DPD Powder and R-0871 FAS/DPD test, but realize this is much more expensive to do daily. How critical is it to have an accurate daily reading? All the emphasis on the FC-CYA relationship across TFP and making sure there is enough FC makes me really worried that I don't have enough ppm of FC.

Most people don't use the comparator block at all (well, except for pH, of course). It doesn't read high enough for some of our FC levels, and it isn't terribly accurate. Stick to the FAS/DPD test.

tftestkits.com claims that the $25.00 SLAM kit of 10g of R-0870 DPD Powder / 2 ounces of R-0871 FAS/DPD Reagent is enough for ~140 daily routine tests. Does that seem accurate?
Probably pretty close - if using the 10ml water sample and one rounded blue spoon full of R-0870.
