Use Cartridge-Cleaning Solution While Leaving Cartridge in Housing?

I stuck a Pentair cartridge filter in my system. Now I have to get up to speed on cleaning it.

I thought I could just blast it with a hose, and that works well enough to get the pressure down, but I see people online talking about cleaning solutions. Do I really need that?

I am not eager to buy a giant container I can sink a large cartridge in. It will be in the way all the time. Is it possible to dump a cleaning solution into the filter housing instead? I was thinking I could plumb the system to pump the solution out into the woods after using it.

No need for a cleaning agent on a regular basis. If you feel that sun lotions and other greasy substances are effecting your cartridge, you can soak it in a TSP solution.

If you are going to use a filter-cleaning product, it is best in a large plastic trash can that can be filled to the height of the whole cartridge. You can only fill the filter tank half way and then that is the only part of the cartridges that would soak. You would find it difficult to keep that solution out of the pool. If you get a lot of foliage into the pool, you will get oils from it. It might be worthwhile to do this once a year.

I don't have foliage problems now. The people who built this house made the bizarre choice of putting a concrete flowerbox full of dirt at the shallow end, and they put 4 trees in about 12 square feet. I killed the trees and burned them, and I am thinking of building a platform from pressure-treated wood to cover the box.
