The 1963 gunite pool (35,000 gallons) in the house that I purchased 3 yrs ago, used to have a stainless steel pool ladder anchored by 2inch threaded round brackets.

Thanks to the guidance from 1poolman1 to look into pipe threads,
I was finally able to find a suitable thread coupling that matches the bracket holes, it was a common 2 inch NPT thread.
In order to anchor the pool ladder, I used a Cam groove coupler to thread into the holes and hold the ladder in place
Amazon: Amazon.com
The ladder that I purchased is a Saftron 24" Residential 4-Step In Ground Ladder, White.
I got it from Leslie's Pool as it made returns easy had it not worked out.

Item No. 501916 | Manufacturer SKU: P-324-L4-W

Once I found a potential thread coupling, I kept looking for a way to better hold the ladder inside the cup, which lead me to the cam groove coupler
