I bought this house last summer and eventually found my way to TFP to guide my pool maintenance, including closing it myself last fall. Today I removed the mesh safety cover and after seeing some of the horror stories posted here I was really nervous about what I would find. Turns out my worrying was for nothing. The water is clear and mostly blue, with a little bit of loose algae here and there. I am amazed - absolutely flabbergasted! Another testament to the knowledge and advice here on the forum.
I have the pump running now and after some circulation time will get a reading on the chemistry. But I haven't started to SLAM yet since there are literally many hundred dead worms on the bottom and I don't see much point in dumping chlorine in until I can physically remove them from the pool. Supposed to be cloudy the next couple days so I'm not too worried about an algae bloom and I hope to get out with the vacuum first thing tomorrow anyways. Also have a couple small leaks around the equipment to address. My biggest worry at this point is that I did not see any bubbles when unplugging the skimmer and returns. I thought I did a pretty good job when closing to blow everything out so I'm not sure what happened. Hopefully everything underground is sound.
