Recently tested my pool water with a test kit and the levels seem off. The pH is around 8.4 and alkalinity is around 180. The CH is fine. CYA is a little too high at 70. Any suggestions on what I should adjust first?

well its not really a test kit just some dinky test strips. Sorry for the wrong wording. I was thinking about investing into a Taylor k2006 test kit but they're kind of costly. Anyways, the FC Is around 0. I shocked not even a week ago and my CYA is high so I'm thinking I gotta lower that CYA before I shock again. Not too sure about the CC since these cheap test strips don't tell me that.
Buy the TF-100 and it will save you tons of money, I promise. It might seem expensive, but being able to manage your pool with cheaper chemicals ( pool chlorine, MA, stabilizer) will pay off in the long run. I PROMISE this is the way to go. Plus, you will get the help you need from all the fine folks on this forum if you take your pool seriously.
Some of the best pool advice you will get is on this forum, but in order for people to help you, you need a few things, as mentioned you need a reliable test kit, the test strips are about a reliable as a politician's promises.
The other thing that will help people is information in your signature, this will give us information about your equipment, and pool surfaces.
Smaller seasonal pools can see just as much enjoyment as their larger counterparts. In this guide we'll show you how to maintain your temporary pool.

As well as reading up on the links mentioned above.
Pools require daily chlorination. Liquid chlorine is the best way to accomplish this w/out adding more cya/stabilizer other than a salt water chlorine generator.
Follow the FC/CYA Levels
A quality test kit (TF-100 or K-2006C) is the best money you will spend on your pool. Worth every penny. It will save you so much time, money, and effort on everything else.
