Two spoon or not two spoon that is the question...

Hiya,

I am having spoon issues. The inside of my blue scoop has turned black. Not sure if this is normal or not... but I continue anyway. Also, every time I scoop some 0870, there is always some left in / on the scoop, as if the scoop is damp. Meaning I don't always get a full heaped scoopful. The scoop is dry... I've towel dried it! I don't know why it is sticking to the scoop but it annoys me. It never used to. Is it attracted to the black?

On a different note, I've been reading around and apparently Taylor recommend 2 scoops for the 0870 powder per test (probably to keep profits high!) I've always thought it was 1 heaped scoop? What are peoples thoughts?

Besides the scoop issues, the dreaded green monster has returned and I'm back on SLAM duty. 5 litres of bleach gone so far!

One heaping scoop is sufficient.

I've seen many discolored scoops on the forum, its normal. However, I rinse and dry my scoop after every use and there is no black stains at all.

A few grains of the 0870 will work, it will just be very light. As long as the color is dark enough to see the change, the test will work.

I rinsed my goal out in the pool once and there was a tiny bit of 0870 in the goal. A foot in diameter spot in my pool turned red, so a little bit goes a long way.

As to the black, never bothered me...

I've found the same issue on the plastic spoon. If you rinse and dry the spoon it doesn't get as bad and the discoloration doesn't affect the test. Also, 0870 is only and indicator so you only need enough to see the color change. I've been using one spoonful for almost 2 years... works fine.

You can clean the scoop with diluted MA. I think 3parts water to 1part MA is the reccomendation. That will also clean a graying chlorine measuring vial.
