Two pumps running in same plumbing

Depends on how they are plumbed together. Can you give a bit more detail on both the suction and return side plumbing? What is the application?

The pumps are both plumbed to the same suction and return lines. We use a three way valve to isolate one pump from the system while the other is running. The application is not unique or special. I can take a picture a little later to show the set up.

Why do you want to run them at the same time?

The problem is if the head curves are not similar, you could be creating enough pressure from the larger pump to stop the flow in the weaker pump. If the head curves are about the same, there shouldn't be an issue although the flow rate from both pumps will be reduced considerably than the total of each one by itself so it doesn't work well unless the head loss is very low. But even then it is incredibly inefficient.

Forgot to mention there is a chance of cavitation because the head loss of the increased flow can create very low pressure at the inlet to the impeller.

Thanks. I was thinking it would move more water, but when you put it thay way, it makes sense. Bad idea of mine, good logic of yours! Cheers mate. Standing down :)
