Turning off SWG while adding salt

Quick question—when turning off SWG while adding salt, does that mean completely removing power to SWG, or just setting output to 0?
My SWG is wired to my pump relay line. To completely remove power requires turning off the pump.
If I turn output to zero, I still have flow and salt indications.
