Hi all, Perhaps a dumb question, freshly plastered and just filled pool, will be salt pool in 30days, need SOME chlorine to keep water non algae growing as it used to have LOTS of problems before the rehab, want to get to, 1-4ppm, right now testing at .13. The start up steps say No Shock for 30 days BUT liquid chlorine to keep water good…..went to supply store and said NEW PLASTER concerns and they sold me liquid chlorine but on opening box its liquid SuperShock…..is the risk due to the % of chlorine in the solution!? Please tell me if I should return it for something else or if % is OK I might go ahead and use it!?.? ThanKs!

The SuperShock is liquid chlorine. They do not want you to use solid chlorine (cal hypo or dichlor).

Just add the chlorine you need in a pencil size stream at the pool return with the pump running. Brush the area well.

How are you testing your pool water chemistry?

Just went out and finished the second brush down, wife had been doing some while I wrote that inquiry….right now taking water samples down to Leslies Pool supply and they are testing on their machine. Coming back from pool I looked of the SuperShock box and it says active ingredient is Sodium Hypochlorite 12.5%…so thats OK in that pencil sized pour, yes!?

I will go out and pull them, I have a new floater can I just stick them in that and let it go!?
Yes. Only issue if it can float over a shallow area and stay. Like a ledge or step. So you can tie it off to something if that is an issue.

thank you!
The pool store testing is one of those “get what you pay for” things. I’m this case it’s free and so many people here have become members because bad pool store testing has caused big problems. So it’s best to get one of the recommended test kits and stay away from the pool store testing.

Fill out your signature with pool, pool equipmemt (including manufacturers and model numbers) and test kit info.
This assists us in providing help specific to your pool without needing to ask you each time.

It's important to do your own at-home testing. PS test results are suspect.
Test Kits Compared
A TF-Pro Salt test kit would serve you well. It has all the tests you need, including the salt test, and comes with the SmartStir.

Hopefully, you specced your SWG to be at least double your pool volume.
