Trying to figure this all out! OVERWHELMED!

Just to ask a stupid question......the sand filter you bought included the pump, right ? Not just the filter itself ? Mine is a different brand so I don't know if those come all as one unit or what.

I assume it would but thought I'd ask !

Steve

No, it's just the filter (each sold seperately) because I was told the pump I had was fine. Everywhere I've looked including the pool store was over $200 for the filter not including shipping. I thought about getting the whole setup (pool store quoted almost $600) but I didn't need all that. Now, if I find a good deal on a pump I'll go for it but until then......

P.S. it wasn't a stupid question! I'm the only one allowed to ask those here!
Here's what I got...

Ah, I wasn't thinking. You had a cartridge filter, right ? So it's just that that you're replacing. Good deal.

Let us know when you get it !

You're not the only one who gets to ask stupid questions. We all have. It's just your TURN now......haha.

Steve

Yup, the Intex Wimpy Cartridge. It's lousy!

I was working outside all day today on the border around my pool (AG). Layed landscape fabric and edging, layed down my pavers and filled with mulch and the Rain Gods decided I needed to go in and rest. Ah, so here I am. Nothing new to report. Just trying to make the edge around the pool pretty...

This is what I did today. I need more mulch but I think it turned out well. Ok, so it's not gorgeous like most of the pools on here but one day..............

Still working on the landscaping & grass (gotta get that junk off of the fence too). I hope to have it like I want it soon. Hubby just rolls his eyes and says, "What next?"

P.S. Notice my almost pretty water!

You've got a nice little setup right there. I think you've done well. I'd be embarassed to show the current state of mine. Pretty pool but not so great privacy barrier. The prior owners constructed some posts and attached PVC latticework between them, 4' X 8' sections, run horizontally. Some of the posts are in cement and just fine. But some were just set on blocks. Almost all of the latticework is buckled, twisted or cracked -- worst in one area where a post slipped off the block. I want to tear it all down and build some decent decking all the way around the pool and then something for privacy on two sides. But I'm not tackling taht in this heat or in the middle of the pool season. That'll have to wait for this fall.

I was at my inlaws today and checking out my brother-in-law's pool. It's funny how closely you inspect someone else's pool and equipment now. First chance I'd had to compare someone else's water to mine ! haha

I received my Hayward Sand Filter today (YIPEE) but it didn't come with the 1 1/2" hose and two adapters to connect it to the pump. Can these be purchased at Lowe's or Home Depot? I have an Intex 1500 gph pump I'm connecting it to but the threads on that are around the edge. The threads on the filter are inside.

Hose and fittings are usually fairly easy to find. Lowes/Home Depot might have them. A pool store will almost surely have them.

Wasn't as hard as my brain was thinking it would be. Tootie on another post sent a picture of her setup for me to see. My Home Depot stinks when it comes to pool supplies but Lowe's had just what I needed. I'll have the filter running soon.

P.S. I don't think I could ever be a plumber! WAY too many little pieces and adapters of all different sizes and such. Once giant confusing puzzle to me.
BTW-after all this time has passed, my water is finally clear and I haven't even hooked up the sand filter yet! Almost took a whole month from the onset of algae to crystal clear water! That has to be a record (for the longest filter job ever)!

And this has to be the longest thread ever! SORRY!

It's been an interesting read! Man, you have patience! :-D

It does seem to work out for everyone who can stand it and stay in the fight. You go from not knowing anything and totally overwhelmed to.......OH.....I get it now....and you have a clean pool you can enjoy.

What's funny too is in the process you get exposed to so much information that you can suddenly help others. Sand in your pool ? Oh, probably a crack in one of the laterals. TA too high ? Lower your Ph and aerate. CYA too high ? Oh, you gotta replace water to bring that down.

This place is one big continuing eduation course and I'm certainly thankful for it !

When you have an 8 year old son who says Mommy.... Mommy.... Mommy.... when can I swim, why are you always on TFP, when will the water clear, why do you keep testing the water, why, why, why???? Patience is something I like to call.....MARGARITA'S!!!
