This is the type of backwash valve that I have (push/pull piston). It's over 20 years old. Lately, it has become very difficult to unlock/lock and push/pull to backwash. It seems like the piston o-rings are sticking to the PVC pipe. Lubricant doesn't seem to help. I actually sheared the steel pin that locks the two halves of the piston assembly together, so that the bottom half of the piston was stuck inside the pipe. It's a long story but I finally managed to get the bottom half out. Very painful experience.
Is there something I can do to make backwashing easier, and avoid the o-rings from seizing to the pipe.
Or, could I replace this backwash valve with a different valve that works more easily.
Please help.
