Triton Plus with Power Stream vs. Dolphin Echo

I just ordered the new 2017 version of the Titan Plus with Power Stream. I paid $969 and added a 4 year warranty for $99. I bought the Echo for my first robotic cleaner after going nuts trying to find comparibles on the different models and have spent the last few weeks obsessing about its shortcomings. After finding this forum, I was finally able to get some answers. So, I hope Ill be able to help pay it forward when I receive the unit.

Ive been running my Echo (Same as dolphins E10 & Active 10) several times per day. Plotting speedbuggy's destruction. I call him that because he spends each cycle hesitating, spinning out, or popping wheelies.

Just realized my new Triton isnt coming due to a billing issue. And now I have cold feet! More research I guess. Yuck.

for less than that, you can get the dolphin a30i from Home | Marina Pool Spa & Patio They are selling it for $899. Thats the top of the line in that series. The Triton plus is basically the A30, but it doesn't come with a caddy. The a30i comes with a caddy and a better warranty (covers wearable parts for 2 years)

I had the same issue with the echo during my demo. It was constantly spinning and lifting up on the front end every time it wanted to turn. I noticed it on the s300 demo as well. I ended up going with the Oasis Z5 because of the 3 year warranty and it was the same price. That unit is heavier though.

The site (marinapoolspaandpatio) says its a special order, Im not seeing prices. This new version (2017 and later) of the Triton Plus with Power Stream is supposedly the same as the a30i. But, no caddy included. It does have the same 2 year warranty. S300i also supposedly the same. I believe the a30i and the s300i are meant to be sold at "brick and mortar" locations. Some say they cant ship it, and/or warranty voided if purchased online.

The Dolphin Oasis Z5 is supposedly the same as the earlier version (2016 and before) of the Triton Plus. This according to the Sunplay article I discovered reading this forum.

Ha! It's also one of the many benefits of having kids. You can learn some tech stuff from them, then choose what tech you want to use, which will in turn make it uncool for them to use.

Marina advertises online but sells mostly in person or by phone. That's how they get around the online thing I think. Yes some model lines are ok to sell online it seems. Yes it's confusing as all get out.

And yes, we all have done things that we since found out at TFP either weren't the best or cheapest approaches.

You have to call them to order, you can't order online. They are a major seller of Dolphin products as well as a large repair facility. If you call them, they will give you the prices. Also, the triton plus is not the same as the A30i, its the same as the A30 or S300. I called maytronics to confirm that. I was going to buy the same unit until I found that out. The Triton plus has the basic bluetooth, no caddy and the 2 year warranty. The A30i/s300i has the caddy, advanced bluetooth (which allows you to choose ultra clean, floor only, walls only, waterline) It also has a 2year warranty, but it includes all wearables (tracks, filters).

Purchasing from marina pool over the phone, your warranty will still be valid. Several people on this site have purchased from them and had no problems registering warranty. Also, Marina is selling the M400 (a larger unit, which is the same as the Oasis z5) for $999. That one comes with a 3 year warranty. Unfortunately, I found out about them about 2 hours if my Oasis z5 shipped, otherwise I would have purchased from them.

I second that. I ordered my oasis z5 and then found this forum and as a result, marina pool. At least I only paid $975 for my unit and it has a 3 year warranty.

On the positive side, Im now saving tons of money on chemicals because of this forum. Before, I was going Pinch a penny for water tests and buying all their chemicals. This site is such a blessing

Great. More confusion. I was soooo excited to find the model comparisons on sunplay. Now you're saying they're inaccurate? No bueno!

For clarity, not to challenge you. Did you make the distinction between the older and newer versions of the triton plus?

The triton plus (2017 model) is the same as the active 30 or s300. The 2016 and earlier model of the triton plus is the same as the Oasis Z5, M400 (sold only in brick and mortar stores)

I know that list says the 2017 model is the same as the active 30i and s300i, but I called Maytronics because I was going to buy that unit and then get a caddy separately since the 2017 triton plus is between $900-$1000. They specifically told me its the same as the active 30 and s300 but with no caddy and only one year warranty on wearables. Thats why I didn't buy it. If it was the same as the active 30i, I would have jumped on it in a heartbeat since all the stores by me are selling the active 30i and s300i for $1300.

Thanx for the follow up.

My confidence in this purchase seems to decline in direct proportion to the amount of input/info absorbed.

I was just comparing the DTPlus 2017 vs. Quantum. And according to the sunplay list the Quantum is the same as the active 30 as well. However, the other article showed several differences. The Quantum has 2 active brushes, while the DTPlus has 2 brushes and only 1 is active. Quantum a swivel vs. DTP anti-tangle software. Quantum no remote/bluetooth capabilities.

Trying not to get hosed by another bad choice has crossed into obsessionville.

I know exactly how you feel, thats how i felt. So many of the reviews that are on the web are nothing more than affiliate link sites. Many of the review sites are even owned by stores that sell private label units like the Dolphin Premier. I spent 3 weeks researching every unit on the market and talking to owners and repair techs just so that I could narrow down my list. Ultimately, I concluded that Dolphin units are the best made with the lease amount of problems.

Maytronics makes several models that are similar to each other and have different names, as you see in that list from Sunplay, but there are small differences between the models. Some have better warranties, some have bluetooth, or an extra brush. Thats why I ended up contacting maytronics directly.

What is your budget? What features are the most important to you?

Must do a great job of climbing, scrubbing, and vacuuming All surfaces...floor, walls, and waterline. I want excellant suction (concrete, no vinyl liner to worry about. Either does a great job of hitting the entire pool or does a good job of hitting all areas and has remote control feature for spot cleaning. Im fine with it not cleaning steps well. Must be great with leaves, sand, and dirt. Top access filter basket. The basket and cord are 2 features that are sufficient on my Echo. The single media strainer gets lots of tiny stuff--almost as much as it leaves behind. 40' cord is enough. I dont need a swivel. Im not concerned about the cost of operation. Id gladly pay $1/hour of operation vs. the $.05/hour that is advertised on most of the newer units. I can do with or without a caddy. I dont need different cycle lengths or a timer. Weight not an issue (under 50lbs or so). Needs to have at least 2 brushes (I still need clarity on active brush vs. Inactive? Passive? brush) And yes, Maytronics/Dolphin please.

I'd like to stay below $1000, but to get my dream cleaner, I'd probably go to $1500 all in. Especially if it had an awesome warranty and decent customer service.

Then either get the oasis z5 or the m400.

Oasis z5 is available from epicpoolsypply.com. There is also a $25 off coupon out there, poolreview25 (not my afffiliate, I just found it on web). M400 is in stores only but you can get it by calling Home | Marina Pool Spa & Patio and I believe they are selling it for $999. They have the 2016 model.

Both units are the same with the exception that I believe the m409 has a full filter indicator, which doesn't really matter if you are taking it on a regular basis.

These are the strongest suction units dolphin makes. The m500 just has a 3rd brush and extra timer features, but is lot more money

They scrub floor, wall, waterline. Have 4 large filters and both the mesh like echo as well as fine filter. I use the fine one since I mostly get dirt and grit in my pool. My pool has never been cleaner since using the unit. Not a speck of dirt in the pool. They have a basic remote to set either regular clean or quick clean and allow you to manually control. (You can buy the pro remote separately if you want to be able to add more features like ultra clean or waterline only) They have 3 year warranty. Swivel cord, .05 cents a hour operation. Dual drive motor. And oasis has split brushes, so it turns on a dime instead of making 3 point turns. (I prefer this because I think it misses less)

I've spoken with maytronics a couple of times and they seem to have good customer service. Was told turn around time for warranty is work is 5-7 days total door to door.
