Triton II TR100 30" Rebuilding

I have an 18 yr. old Triton II TR100 30" sand filter (with glass medium) that I suspect has some damage inside. I randomly have glass in the pool by the outlets. I'm not sure if it's the diffuser, piping, laterals, etc. that have failed, and I won't know until I pop it open, take out the glass and inspect the unit.

My question to you guys: Do you think it's better to replace all the internals, or just buy the same filter completely new? I can get the filter new from a friend's wholesale supplier for right under $1,000. Retail is around $1,400 + tax. Replacing the internals would be cheaper, but I'm leaning towards new considering its age.

Thoughts?

I tell all my customers, "Nothing is as good as new except new."
