Guys,
I have no display on my TriStar VS 950. I have tried the comm cable and switched circuit breakers on and off. I also had an VSC comm error message on my Hayward control panel. I think I have a bad pump/drive. My question is are they worth rebuilding and can you rebuild them?

You said it's hooked up to a Hayward control panel, I'm assuming that's an automation system and if that's the case you won't have any display on the pump itself at all. Was the pump working before? If you can show some pictures of the wiring it may help. Also this thread may be helpful. Usually if there's an issue with the drive it just gets replaced. Certain things with the motor (bearings, seals) can be replaced but those wouldn't give you a communications error, they would just be noisy.

I’m out of town at the moment, but yes…it is automation. The only wire I would be able to post is the wire from the pump to the automation panel on the outside. It is a long and white cord. Yes, the pump was working before.

Dhos.

The first thing to do is measure the 240 volts right where it goes into the pump.. Make sure you measure between the L1 connection and the L2 connection.. You should get 240 volts AC.

Do not measure L1 to ground and then L2 to ground, as that can often give you an invalid readings.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Don't know if this is your issue.
For the TriStar VS 950 to be connected to automation the display on the pump is disconnected (no longer works) at the pump as the same connection point (RS475 interface) is used to wire to automation. Verify your communication wiring is correct. See section 5.2 in the manual. https://www.hayward-pool.com/assets...tar-vs-950-owners-manual-IS3206VSP3-REV-B.pdf
Does anyone know how long this problem has existed and how long the pump has been installed? This error sounds somewhere similar to the pump stall error on an almost identical hayward pump the ecostar VSP. If the current pump was working fine for months, then this just happened, I would suggest the wiring is fine [unless something just came loose]. If the pump is still under warranty, contact your installer/hayward for warranty service.

Wow,thanks for the responses. I actually had my pool guy diagnose it….it was a bad pump, so I just had him replace the whole thing. He will age to come back tomorrow though because my inside automation panel is not working. It says “ communication error 2, call 888-921-7665. I called and it is the Hayward troubleshooting number.

How old wA this pump? What type of circuit breaker is serving the pump?

Also, for this pump, I would make 1000% sure only this pump is on that circuit and nothing else.
