Trimming grass edging Suggestions

Good day all. Does anyone have any clever solutions for trimming grass edge as pictured? I always just use a string trimmer and it's a nightmare skimming the pool to get the grass out after trimming. Thinking some type of shield? Or treating the edge with plant growth regulator to slow down growth? I'm sure someone else has a similar setup and cooked up a better solution than i have so far. I don't really like any of my own ideas so far. Thanks!

Curious to see what tips & tricks others have to say about this. I go through the same thing and it's very frustrating. :brickwall: I've gotten to the point that when it comes to edging or even cutting the grass, I try to do it when the wind is blowing away from the water. It helps a little, but not perfect.

A GOOD landscaping mat and river rock-done! When leaves etc get in the rock it blows out nicely with a blower. I loved the look of the grass, but it was way too much work.

thanks for the replies so far. we have a smallish yard and want some real grass for the dogs, so turf or rocks are a no-go unfortunately. i would definitely prefer real grass not be so close to the waters edge but it kind of is what it is. searching for a clever solution to maintain what i have, not change it.

I have my son stand in front of the pool holding a tarp to block the trimmings. That may be more difficult with your edge being so close to the pool.

I have a similar problem. I thought about river rocks, but… In my case rocks would meet the grass. There would need to be a barrier installed to keep the rocks in place and give the whole thing a tidy look. How to do this cheaply? About three quarters of the pool perimeter would need that barrier.

Use a manual edger. It is a small section.

Either s spade, or one of these. - Amazon.com

You could use the one that looks like a spiked wheel as well, but I have found a spade or the above to work better.

Power Rotary Scissors. Replace the head on string trimmer. Cleaner cut, much less mess. You should be able to find them for just under $200.

Also use PGR as you mentioned as it will reduce the amount of mowing required.

There are weedeaters (string trimmers) with interchangeable heads. A standard edger would make quick work of that.

Something like this although I have gas. Example

I have one of those. It sits in my shed now. I seemed to chew though blades for it like crazy for some reason.
