Total Solar Eclipse April 8, 2024 Monday.

If you hold your thumbs up at arms length and point it towards the sun, you can have an eclipse any time you want. I sell instructional videos of how to make your own personal eclipse on VHS tapes … BetaMax costs extra …

Your library of instructional videos is quite impressive.

The videos seem to cover almost every topic imaginable.

These are my favorites so far.

Origami, Linear Algebra, Woodworking, Astronomy, Accounting, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Cooking, Marine Biology, Plumbing and Electrical Engineering.

The forecast for the Dallas area is 0% visibility.
Hopefully, we will still see it, but I'll only be out a few $ for the glasses. Lots of people here rented out their houses to people traveling for the eclipse, and in turn are using the $ to go on vacation. I'm expecting mass chaos with the cancellations, etc. That could be way more entertaining than the eclipse itself :)

You know somebody is going to sue somebody who shows up for the eclipse, stays in the house, and gets mad the weather prevented them from enjoying the whole eclipse experience and the homeowner refuses a full refund.

I’m already planning a class action lawsuit against Mother Nature. She will be named as the primary defendant in the case with various government entities that run cover for her. Send me your name, address, SSN, maiden/mother’s name and bank account info if you want me to add you to the class … it’s going to be epic.

I’m near Indianapolis. They declared a state of emergency, NG, etc, here days ago because of the “influx of visitors” for the eclipse. Traffic, cell service, goods/gas availability… etc MAY all be effected
Doctors appts (offices near or in local hospital) canceled after 12 pm, tele health appts only - so clearly they just want the afternoon off to watch the eclipse haha!
I’m in a pretty rural area and the local fire dept has said parts of our main thoroughfare will be shut down

I’m just having a hard time wrapping my head around the why. Maybe Monday I’ll get my answers

Meh! Once you’ve seen one once and experienced the dim light in the middle of the day, it’s pretty much boring after that.

Then again, there were some cultures that performed mass human sacrifices when an eclipse happened … so that tells you all you need to know about human behavior 🙄

All the hoopla “busiest day at the Indy airport in its history” …. The news girl was asking nearly everyone that walked by…. Are you here for the eclipse ? She must have asked 20 people and only one person said yes .
I couldn’t help it I cracked up

Here the Mrs and I were thinking of driving up to Plattsburg, NY area (actually a rest stop on 87) from Jersey Monday morning. Wonder if that is a bad idea and the traffic will be a shi$show? My original plan to go to my brothers in Erie went down the crapper as it will be cloudy there. Figure once in a lifetime for me to see a full one.

The diameter of the sun is about 400 times larger than the diameter of the moon, which means that the cross sectional area of the sun is about 160,000 times larger than the cross sectional area of the moon.

However, the eclipse people claim that the moon will completely block the sun.

The moon can only block 1/160,000 of the sun, so you probably will not be able to even see any difference.

1 day.

Since the moon has gravity, you can get some gravitational lensing.

So, the moon will act like a giant magnifying glass.

According to my calculations, the entire luminosity of the Sun (about 3.86 x 10^26 watts) will be focused onto a single point on the earth about 1 foot in diameter creating a powerful beam that will vaporize anything and everything in its path.
