Hello everyone. I bought a house last fall that just so happens to have come with a pool
. I’ve never had a pool, so I am a complete newbie to everything. I am very slowly learning (or trying to) and just rolled off the cover to the pool on Friday. I thought I’d be smart and have a guy from our local pool company come over and “open” the pool. He vacuumed it, turned on the pump/filter, dumped some Algaephos and 2 gallons of old (have no idea how long it’s been in the pool building) chlorine in and called it a day.
Thankfully, I already had the TF-100 on hand. I have a 19,200gallon vinyl. Tested yesterday morning and FC was 0. Alkalinity was 40. PH was 6.8. I have been reading that alkalinity is the first thing I need to get straight so I put in 12lb of baking soda last night.
This morning, Alkalinity is 110, PH is 7.5. Calcium hardness is 50. CYA is 0. And Chlorine is .5. I not sure why my chlorine is so low, since he said he shocked it on Friday? Anyway, I’d love some advice on what to do next. I was thinking I need to shock it again tonight with the stuff the pool company gave me (cal-hypo powder) and test again tomorrow? I also got chlorine tabs at the pool company. Should I throw one of those in as well? Sorry if I sound stupid. This is all so new to me and chemistry is not my thing.
The water looks pretty good, other than some floating little white stuff that doesn’t seem to be going away. No idea what that is either. But it’s so small the net won’t pick it up.
