Total Chlorine is high

My readings this morning:
PH 7.6
FCl 3-5
TCl 3-5****
Alk 170
CYA 45
TH 250+

I thought I read that Total chlorine should be below 0.5 or it’s a problem. Is this true?

Total chlorine is a meaningless number. It is the addition of FC and CC. From your post, your CC is 0. That matters, and is good.

So what you are saying is only be concerned about FCl and not even bother with the TCl and CC value? Sorry if I’m sounding dense.

The formula is FC + CC = TC.

In a perfect world, CC would be zero. That would make FC = TC. In reality, up to 0.5 CC is fine.

You should know FC and CC values individually. FC to know if you have enough to keep things sanitary, and CC to know if there's a problem on the horizon.
