Too hot for plaster?

How hot is too hot for plaster? We were supposed to plaster tomorrow or Saturday but we're have an excessive heat wave with highs in the 100-103 degrees range. We're in SoCal so that's hot dry heat.

Would it be bad to plaster in that kind of heat? At what temp does it become a bad idea or what is considered the maximum heat for a good plaster job?

Thanks!

I wouldn't do it. I know you're excited to get in your new pool but it's going to be extremely hot here for the next few days. Go feel how warm your shell already is from today's heat. If it was me I would wait until next week.

Its ok to plaster as long as the team are pro's - cover the pool with a tent while doing the work and then immediately fill with water, but not by a hose with water trucks that can fill the pool within a couple of hours.

I have plastered in 100 heat but did the above and all was good. People got paid and life went on and swimmers were happy.

Just to note there is a lot of water in plaster/ and pebble mixes and if the team knows what they are doing its no problem. How about AZ, NV, and Texas.. its always above or near 100

It was upper 90’s (Houston soggy heat - so heat index in the 100’s) when they plastered our pool with Wet Edge. They had to hustle towards the end to keep ahead of the plaster. Luckily they had enough guys to do it. I’’d say if the plaster crew is reputable, they will have the judgement on whether or not they can pull it off - if it gets away from them, they are on the hook to chip it out and try again. I don’t imagine they would start a job they didn’t think they could finish given the heat.

Thanks for all the feedback. Yeah, I would imagine in places like Palm Springs or Arizona, they have to deal with weather this hot or hotter all summer and still put in pools. My PB said his plaster guy is a pro and said it'll be fine. It is a small pool and they are starting at 7am long before the HIGH for the day so I'll leave it in their hands to get it done right.

Definitely excited to get to the filling with water part!

Just a follow-up. Thankfully Saturday was about 10 degrees cooler than Friday, but still hot. The highs were in the mid-90's.

But the plaster team on our job was excellent. They did awesome work and everything went great and the plaster looks amazing!
