Too Early for Dolphin Cleaner

I just received my Dolphin S200 (great service and price from Marina Pool in Denver! Thanks for the tip TFP!). My question is that I haven't opened the pool but I would like to clean it. Can I put the Dolphin S200 in the pool before balancing the water to get the leaves, etc. out? I'm guessing on water temp being somewhere around 50 degrees give or take 5 degrees.

You can put the robot in the pool as long as you an see that there are no big debris that the robot could get hung up on.

I would read through the manual or even call their helpline to be sure. I thought anything under 60 degrees could cause potential damage to the drive mechanism. Something about the belts not liking the cold water.

I have no clue what the manual says, but I have three Dolphin robots and they all run just fine when the temp is below 60... I would just make sure to get out everything you can with a leave rack first, and then go for it..

First, the best price I got was Marina as good as PoolPartz refurbished but with a two year warranty instead of one.

Second, regarding how did the robot perform? It did pretty well. It left some leaves on the bottom. I'm not sure if this is because they just move around too much or what. I'll give it another try in a few days or a week or so. I'm not sure it did any worse than I would cleaning manually except I would always get all the leaves - easy to see after all. Plus, it saves on my shoulder which just can't take the pulling up on the brush/vacuum. Everything it went over, it picked up at least.

Yesterday I placed our new S200 in the water after picking up a couple of larger leaves and a few sprigs. Very entertaining watching "Stu" travel around, forward, back attempting to go up a wall and backing down, then finding another wall, climbing to the tile top edge, sometimes diagonally, then scrubbing away. It did about 5 strokes and sometimes continued sideways scrubbing. As expected it cleaned the bottom half of our 6" tile and could not climb the steps.
When finished after about 2-3 hours, the bottom and sides of the pool looked great. Very pleased. The basket contained lots of smaller leaves and little bits of yuck that were grass or other organic debris.
Silent except when it is furiously scrubbing and sticking to the vertical wall churning water. Funny. The video trimmed was still too large to post.
I have not figured out how to use the control {basic no wifi/bluetooth} to tell it to drive over to where I can pull it out of the water. I restarted it and waited until it strolled over to the shallow area where I could reach it and then shut off the power.
If it continues to work this well for years, I will be quite happy with the purchase (from Marina).

When I take my robot out of the pool, I just pull it to me by the cord. You can't lift it out of the pool with the cord, but there is no problem lifting it up so you can grab the handle..

And just to make sure you know.. the robot only climbs up to the waterline every so many tries.. I can't remember how often, but it is not supposed to climb to the waterline each time.

I am quite pleased with mine also..

When I take my robot out of the pool, I just pull it to me by the cord. You can't lift it out of the pool with the cord, but there is no problem lifting it up so you can grab the handle..

And just to make sure you know.. the robot only climbs up to the waterline every so many tries.. I can't remember how often, but it is not supposed to climb to the waterline each time.

Thanks. I was thinking the same. I watched it for about 10 minutes then came back after it was finished. Yes the tile will need manual brushing but a small price to pay over me vacuuming and brushing all the walls.

The online instructions for the S200 says it’s ok to use the cord to pull it to you and then use handle once it’s at waterline.

Yeah you can pull it to the surface of the water by the cord...the buoyancy of the water will prevent damage to the cord. Dont pull on the cord any more when the cord attachment to the robot is at the surface.
