Greetings fellow pool peeps,
It’s been awhile since I’ve needed to use our fabulous TFP forums because, well, my pool has been perfect. Special thanks to this resource
Every 5 months or so, I need to add a little CYA to my salt water pool. Our AZ sunshine keeps the levels dwindling and since it’s a salt pool, I don’t use chlorine tablets, which I understand contain CyA.
Today, I popped into Leslie’s to buy CYA. I didn’t plan to add it just yet but want to have it in hand for when it is depleted. With temps warming up and more sunshine, I know this will be in the next few months.
The store rep actually talked me out of ever adding stabilizer/CYA. Instead, she indicated I should be adding shock weekly. If I was doing that, it would also keep my CYA levels correct.
Can you please share your thoughts on this? I’m embarrassed to admit that I’ve never added shock. I’ve never needed to. My SWG keeps my levels in range and I’ve never had any major imbalances or chemistry issues. But, is it recommended to shock every week as part of regular maintenance? Is this the best way to keep up CYA as well, or should I ignore Leslie’s advice and keep doing what I’m doing (adding CYA/stabilizer granules every 5ish months as needed)?
Fyi my current readings:
FC: 7.0
PH: 7.6
TA: 90
CH: 425
CYA: 50
Salt: 3300
Appreciate your advice,
Thank you,
Kim
