To buy or not to buy? (another Maytronics robot)

We have a dead Pentair Warrior SE. A big disappointment that worked fairly well for just over 2 years, the warranty period, then died the usual way. Should I buy another Maytronics robot or will it just die in another couple years? The guys at Leslie's where we went to look at them say Maytronics has solved the problem of motor burnout, but I'm skeptical. Opinions? If not Maytronics, what else is the best choice?

My SE died just before the 2 year warranty expired so they sent me a new motor assembly. I kept the old motor for parts. I try to use it as sparingly as possible to hopefully prolong its life. If it dies, I really have no choice but to get another robot. I haven’t heard anything about them fixing the motor burnout issues. They need brushless motors

tj,

No doubt it appears that the new Dolphin Robots have a pretty poor lifespan... But two years seems extra early. Tell us what it does, or does not do? What have you tried to fix it?

Here is a new robot that I am trying out..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Not sure if this will help but maybe, so I will mention it .
If you purchased your bot with a credit card 💳 check to see if you have extended warranty protection as a perk. My particular card adds 1 year extra. There have been members here who have deployed this perk for replacing their dolphins.

Call maytronics anyways. My prior robot died just outside of warranty. I called to see what the warranty was and they told me the bad news. A couple days later they sent an email with an offer for a ‘one time fix’ as if the warranty was still good. I think I had to pay the shipping.

I had already purchased a new robot over that two day period but I sold the old one now w new motor for like $500 on ebay

I have a short pool season in NY. Open end of A
early May and close mid September. I run my Robot 2-3 times a week x 5 months (20 weeks). So 60 cycles ish. Say 70 because I run more often after opening when I’m clearing debris.

I’m in my 3rd season knock on wood. I hope it keeps going many more. If it were to Crud out I’d get another new or like new used bc it’s a big time saver. I’d get the same model as I’ve seen more expensive ones that don’t work as well.

I've been trying to get an RMA for my Sigma since May 27th. I have no issues with the unit (other than remote connectivity problem) but I do have an issue with their absolute inability to get me an RMA. I might be in a one off situation, but their service has been non-existant to this point, just FYI. If I had to do it today, I could not force myself to buy another.

My SE died after about 3.5 years. Promptly ordered a new Active 40. Had a new motor put in the SE and keeping it for a spare.

Don't Complain. My Dolphin Advantage Ultra which I purchased in April '23 has already died. They agreed to fix it under warranty, but the pool season will be over by the time I get my robot back. These robots are very simple to disassemble, but they don't sell any of the individual parts to fix them, like the motor bearings of individual motors. Not sure I will be buying Maytronicss again. There has got to be a better robot cleaner brand that is easy to fix yourself with parts available.

My first robot was a Zodiac MX-8, purchased in 2011, IIRC for 400. Lasted until 2021, where it needed a tune-up. I thought I should get 1k robot, for that price it should be better....boy was I wrong. This is my second season with a Prowler 930w, and I will go back to the MX-8 as soon as this one dies.
